State Leaders

After over 30,000 votes, Carter Smith (Mifflin County) and Angela Zeng (South Fayette) earned last week's Athlete of the Week honors. 

Smith earned the laurels after winning the Paul Short Gold race last week. He posted a personal best 15:04 and won a nail-biter race against some of the best boys in the state.

Angela Zeng (South Fayette) earned the honor after winning the Legends Meet Large race in Ohio. The freshman ran a 15-second personal best with her 18:23.

This weekend, there were some incredible performances in and out of state. Each week - The PA MileSplit crew will nominate multiple athletes and allow you to vote for the Runner of the Week. This week's poll will close on Wednesday (October 16th) at 8:00 pm EST.

The Week's Boys Candidates:

Nolan Yeagle (La Salle College HS) - Yeagle was the top Pennsylvanian in the field at the Manhattan Invitational Eastern States Championship race. Yeagle ran 12:56 over the 2.5 mile course and led La Salle to a fifth place team finish.

Isaac Oppermann (State College) - Oppermann out-leaned Carter Smith (Mifflin County) at the line to win the Mid-Penn Championship. He ran 15:34 over the challenging Big Springs XC Course. He led State College to the team victory.

Graham Wanck (Athens Area) - Wanck out-kicked Creed Dewing (Northeast Bradford) to win the the NTL Coaches Invitational. Wanck defeated Dewing by a tenth of a second and crossed the line in 16:15.1.

Clark LaLomia (Quaker Valley) - LaLomia ran 16:21.6 to win the MAC XC Championship last week. LaLomia ran away from Tyler Biss (Beaver Area) to seal the victory.



The Week's Girls Candidates:

Ana Bondy (Carlisle)  - Bondy out-kicked State College's Devon Jackson to win the Mid-Penn Championship. She posted an 18:39. Her and Jackson were over a minute ahead of the rest of the field.

Grace Trimmer (Uniontown Area) - Trimmer ran 19:30 to win the Fayette County Coaches Association Championship. Trimmer finished over a minute quicker than the rest of the field.

Dagny Shiffler (Shipley) - Shiffler ran 19:23.6 to win the Friends Schools League Championship. Her victory helped lead Shipley to the team win as they placed five in the top nine.

Cecilia Montagnese (Quaker Valley) - Montagnese ran 19:04.57 to win the MAC XC Championship. She won by over 20-seconds and powered her way to an impressive victory.
