The indoor season is in full swing, presenting a new opportunity for athletes to rise through the Pennsylvania track and field ranks.
Throughout the indoor season, we will highlight PA's "Future Stars." These are athletes, typically underclassmen, who have the potential to be stars tomorrow.
Ella Petrosky
JP McCaskey • Class of 2028
Ella Petrosky is wasting no time during her debut varsity season.
The JP McCaskey freshman demonstrated dominance at the Franklin & Marshall High School Invite #1, winning the 60m dash in 7.79 seconds, ranking PA No.1.
Petrosky's primary competition in the race was four-time Delaware state champion Kennedy Smith (Caravel Academy), who ran 7.96. The two girls were the only runners to crack eight seconds on the day.
For further context, Pretrosky's time would have placed her eighth at last year's PTFCA Indoor State Championships. The question is, can the young star continue this early success throughout the season and contend for a state medal this year?
Pretrosky has already demonstrated consistency with a strong performance at the 5th Annual Alvernia Holiday Classic. She clocked a 7.87 for the fastest prelim time, following it up with an even faster 7.86 in the finals for second place, losing to Tamryn Premici (Central Dauphin East), who ran 7.83. Premici was just out of qualifying for the finals at last year's PTFCA Indoor State Championships.
Pretrosky is already contending with top in-state and out-of-state competition. If she can keep this momentum up, there's no doubt she will compete for medals during the championship portion of the indoor season.
Kaleb Young
Episcopal Academy • Class of 2028
Kaleb Young, who awe-inspiringly ran 1:52.59 in the 800m as an eighth grader, opened the indoor season racing the mile.
Young ran 4:36.63 at TFCAofGP Meet #1. He was rolling with the seniors, splitting Radnor middle-distance stand out, Joseph Garzio, the individual champion in 4:31.35, and Lower Merion senior Dylan Leone, third in 4:36.68.
As an already developing youngster on track, the Episcopal Academy freshman should be on your radar to rise through the ranks of high school middle-distance running.
