Staying with the sprinter theme this week, here are two PA future sprint stars who have already performed impressively this year.
Each week, we will be highlighting a future star of Pennsylvania. These are athletes, typically underclassmen, who have the potential to be stars tomorrow. We will highlight a couple of athletes each week.
Ella Petrosky
JP McCaskey • Class 2028
Her first year in the high school scene has not disappointed this Southern Pennsylvania athlete. She has shown her dominance over her first Indoor season in the 60-meter and 200-meter dashes.
So far this season, she has won the invitationals she has gone to every time, besides three of them, for which she earned second place. Her times this year in the 60-meter dash make her the fastest underclassman at 7.66 seconds this year, as well as 4th in all of PA this season. In the 200-meter dash, she again is the fastest underclassman in 25.24 seconds, coming in at 9th in all PA so far. On the National stage, against her own grade, she is 21st in the 200-meter and 9th nationally in the 60-meter dash.
She has many more years to prove how fast she can become. As of now, she will be attending the PTFCA State Championships on March 2nd, so make sure to see how she and the rest of the state do.
Jalen Bowman
Malvern Prep • Class of 2027
This is his second season competing in the indoor field. Last year, his season ended before he reached the state championship; however, this year is looking very different. This season, he has focused on the 60-meter and 200-meter dashes. He has excelled in the 60-meter dash so far.
With not many wins this season, he was, however, able to earn a win at the Penn Relays Winter Showcase presented by Toyota in the 60-meter. In the 60-meter dash this season, he is the fastest underclassman with a time of 6.87 seconds. He ranks 4th in the state in it, only behind three seniors. On the National stage, in his grade, he is ranked 3rd nationally.
With excelling in just one event, it will be interesting to see how he can work to improve in events like the 200-meter or 400-meter. With that being said, he will, as of now, be one of the favorites to go to states and have the ability to shake things up in the 60-meter dash with a possible victory coming his way.
