73rd Eastern States Championships
Abington surged up the state and national rankings in two relays. (Photo by Tim Fulton, ArmoryTrack.com) They moved up to US#4 and PA#2 in the 4x400 while winning the event in 3:20.56 and ran a US#3 and PA#1 time of 7:52.70 to win the 4x800 meter relay. Cardinal O’Hara ran 3:25.83 for a 9th place finish in the 4x400 and PA#5 honors. Hempfield (3) ran a PA#5 time of 1:32.45 to finish 10th in the 4x200 meter relay. Seth Robbins of Cumberland Valley ran a PA#1 time of 9:30.94 to finish 3rd in the full two mile run, teammate Andy Flynn finished 3rd in the 800 meter run with a PA#2 time of 1:56.19, Stephen Lewis of Liberty ran a new PA#1 time of 7.59 in the 55 meter hurdles to finish 2nd overall, Tom Hopkins of The Haverford School ran a PA#5 time of 49.85 in the 400 meter dash for a 7th place finish. In the field events, Stephen Lewis of Liberty won the high jump with a new PA#1 mark of 6-10, and Hopkins finished 2nd in the long jump with a mark of 23-00.50
In girls action, Leah Nugent of Abington improved her PA#1 time in the 400 meter dash with a time of 56.73, finishing 3rd overall. Kayleigh Perry of ELCO ran 5:11.76 in the one mile run to finish 4th, with Liz Barrett of St. Basil’s finishing 6th overall with her time of 5:12.44. Amanda Faust of Emmaus ran a PA#1 time in the full two mile run with a time of 11:14.28, finishing 4th. In the field events, Jessica Matsinger of Great Valley moved up to PA#3 in the triple jump with her mark of 36-08.75 for a 6th place finish, and in the relays, Cheltenham finished 6th in the finals, but ran a PA#5 time of 1:44.42 in the prelims, and Abington ran a PA#5 time of 4:03.91 for an 8th place finish in the 4x400 meter relay.

Courtney Kedra, 19-00.50 Long Jump,
tie US#8, her PR indoor
Phoenixville's Courtney Kedra found her form from last spring and took over the top PA spot in the long jump with her T-US#8 mark of 19-00.50 to highlight the snow delayed Meet of Champions. Iyisha Weaver of Paul Robeson finished 2nd to Kedra with a T-PA#2 mark of 18-07.50. In the triple jump, Ali Gillen of Central Bucks East won the event with a PA#2 mark of 37-06.50, with Alisa Forwald of Girls High finishing 2nd with a PA#3 mark of 37-04.00. Annie Holland of Pennridge won the high jump with a T-PA#1 mark of 5-6. In the relays, West Catholic ran a new PA#1 and US#8 time of 1:42.69 and won the 4x400 with a PA#2 time of 3:57.91. Pennridge (12:38.50 DMR) and Strath Haven (9:37.46 4x800) each put up PA#3 performances. In open running events, Shanae Bailey of Swenson improved her PA#1 in the 60 meter hurdles to 8.83, Rayiana Johnson of Chester moved to PA#1 in the 60 meter dash with her time of 7.64, with Tymerah Burgess of Simon Gratz finishing 2nd in a PA#2 time of 7.66, Michelle Davis of West Catholic ran a PA#3 time of 25.23 to win the 200 and teammate Chante Moore ran a PA#2 time in the 400 with her time of 56.93.

Rad Gunzenhauzer of Mount Lebanon improved his PA#1 3000 to 8:41.38 (US#8) and Baldwin takes over PA#1 (US#11) DMR with 10:26.78 to highlight boys action at the Tri State Championships. Brandon Ifill of Penn Hills posted a pair of PA#3s in winning both the 60 meter dash (6.97) and the 200 meter dash (22.11), and Dennis Logan of Baldwin ran a PA#5 time, winning the 800 meters in 1:57.23. In the other relays, Penn Hills won the 4x200 (1:32.01/PA#3), the 4x400 (3:27.96) and the 4x800 (8:01.08/PA#4). In the field events, both Pat Cocharan of McDowell and Nathan Harriger of Norwin cleared 6-5 in the high jump with Cocharan winning on misses. Cocharan also won both the long jump with a mark of 22-03.75 (PA#8), and the triple jump with a mark of 46-04.50.
Angel Piccirillo won the mile in 5:07.70 and the 800 in 2:20.96, and Rachel Serafin of Hempfield Area won the shot put in 42-02 to highlight girls performances. Inam Wilkerson of Penn Hills ran 25.54 (PA#7) to win the 200 and her teammate Jordan Lee won the 400 meters in 57.91 (PA#4). Penn Hills also won the 4x400 meter relay in 4:07.25. Brittany Edwards of Baldwin won both the long jump (17-01.75) and the triple jump (35-09.25), Nicole Hilton of South Fayette won the 3000 meters in 10:35.31, Shenley won the 4x200 in 1:45.14 (PA#6), and Hempfield Area's Larissa Debich cleared 11-3 to win the pole vault,
