The Competition:
Already deep in talent, PTXC-2 will feature one of the top returning runners in the U.S., with the addition of the boys and girls teams from Cornwall NY, featuring Aisling Cuffe. Cuffe's 4th place at Foot Locker Nationals, and 2nd place in the Penn Relays 3000 put her among the top of the returning class in 2010. She is a two-time Foot Locker all-American.
in the A race, Cuffe will face junior, and two-time PIAA AA State 1600-meter Champion, and Penn Relays Invitational Mile Champion Angel Piccirillo of Homer Center.
Top girls teams who have either entered PTXC-2 include the 2009 6th place AAA girls' team from Virginia, Osbourn Park - they are the third ranked returning team in Virginia for 2010. From PA, it's the returning PA#4, #7 and #9 teams. They are, respectively, three-time AA state champs Central Cambria, independent power Academy of Notre Dame, and perennial front-runners West Chester Henderson. All three teams are projected to be in the PA #10 pre-season rankings.
In the boys' race, it is PTXC-1 defending champion Alex Galli of Cedar Crest, who is coming off anchoring the winning AAA 4x800 relay. He'll face senior Wade Endress, who will lead the top returning boys' team from Altoona this season. Altoona finished 2009 as PA#5. Also committed to the race is 2009's PA#7 team from Unionville, also projected to be top 10 in the pre-season rankings.
