It was just another day at the office for the West Catholic girls. And taking care of business was also the order of the day for the Simon Gratz boys. Known for great competition, the Father Judge Relays serves as the final tune-up for teams looking to make a great showing in the following week's Penn Relays. West Catholic won the 4x100 in 48.18 and the 1600 Sprint Medley Relay in 1:44.03. Their two stars, Nicole Leach and Latavia Thomas, each won individual events, with Leach taking the 400 Hurdles in 1:00.09, and Thomas going 58.32 in the 400.
The Simon Gratz boys swept three relays, the 4x100 in 42.50, the 4x400 in 3:22.90, and the 800 Sprint Medley Relay in 1:35.00. There was a timing snafu in the 4x400, with Gratz getting tagged with a 2nd place time four seconds slower than their eventual winning time. The story in the Philadelphia Inquirer: Gratz boys outrun the timers. And Gratz frosh Khaliff Featherstone won a quick 400 in 49.30.
In other action, Engineering & Science ran the PA#1 time in the 4x400, going 3:55.90. Hatboro-Horsham is getting back in 4x800 shape, winning in 9:27.57. They're racing their specialty at Penn.
