PTFCA Indoor Track Carnival
The 2011 version of the PTFCA Indoor Carnival soared to brand new heights, as the meet featured 164 state qualifying performances, 3 meet records, one tied record, and two brand new national top ten performances.
Jordan Matthews of Abington dazzled the long jump supporters with her US#2 mark of 19-02.50, becoming only the 2nd female in the past five years to clear 19 feet. That was her best mark this winter, and her best mark since the opening weekend of the season.

In the boys long jump, Rich D'Ambrosio of Malvern Prep regained the state lead with a T-US#7 mark of 23-06.50. For D'Ambrosio, it was his first time long jumping since the opening weekend because of all the snow the area had received. He relied on focus and a lot of jumping drills and plyometrics to get himself ready to hit the board after a full two months.
But arguably the best performance of the meet was done by Angel Piccirillo of Homer Center. For perhaps the first time in meet history, Piccirillo ran the mile, 800, and 3000 meter runs. With a lack of a track and bad weather, workouts have been hard to come by for the Foot Locker and Millrose Mile finalist.

So this schedule was not only a challenge but a nice workout as well. To kick it off, she won the mile in a meet record time of 5:04.95, finished 4th in the 800 in a PA#10 2:18.24, and then ran a "smooth looking" PA#7 10:25.44. This triple could be a sign of things to come for PA distance runners at states in 2 weeks time.
Those three led a plethora of outstanding performances. Shelley Black of James M. Coughlin pulled off a balancing act after hitting the final hurdle to hold off Emerald Walden of Plymouth Whitemarsh at the finish line. Black won in 8.73 and Walden ran a personal best and US#7 8.77. Those two along with Abington's Leah Nugent are all in the US top ten in 2011.

West Perry's Morgan Sheaffer came away with the 800 meter gold medal against a stacked field in a PA#4 2:17.20. Emma Keenan of Gwynedd Mercy was 2nd with a PA#5 2:17.29. Taylor Morgan of Upper Dublin set a new meet record in the high jump with a mark of 5-07.25. She already has cleared 5-8 this season. Margo Britton of Dallastown won the shot put with a PA#5 40-1.
