PIAA District 7
It's crunch time, and the boys and girls teams from Mount Lebanon and Quaker Valley took care of business, winning both AAA and both AA championships, respectively. The boys used a 42 second spread behind the 5th place finish of Jim O'Toole in 16:39. Their 100 points were nine better than North Hills. Sam Bair, Shaler, recovered from a tough race last week to outsprint North Hills Junior Ian Fitzgerald by two seconds, winning in 16:10. Mount Lebanon's girls tallied 181 points behind the 10th place finish of Lauren Wood, in 20:08. North Allegheny, always there when it counts, was second with 198 points. Christine Taranto, West Allegheny, went 19:06 to hold off Penn Hills freshman Kaitlin Grimm by 13 seconds. Three-time defending WPIAL champ Lauren Bricker was 13th in 20:13. The Quaker Valley guys were 20 better than Ellwood City, getting 63 points, paced by the 3rd place finish of Zach Thomas in 16:59. Brentwood senior Dan Erny went 16:41 for the AA win. The girls placed five in the top 14 and all seven in the top 19 to tally just 40 points. Senior Maxinne Marckfield ran 19:49 to win the race for the championship team.
