The latest proof that one freshman can make a big difference came in the person of Natalie Bower of Latrobe. She simply refused to be intimidated by a talented field at the growing Red, White & Blue Classic in Pittsburgh's Schenley Park. Her 18:43 , led four scoring seniors in 9th, 11th, 16th and 36th for the 72-86 win over North Allegheny. Individually, second place went to the other (mild) surprise in western PA this season, the return of Mount Lebanon's Zaratiza Petrova, who was 15 seconds back. Her team was 3rd.

In the Varsity boys race, North Allegheny scored a 33 point win over Pittsburgh Central Catholic behind the 2nd place finish by senior Max Brown, who appears to be on track to the XC season his ability portends. His race up-front was with Central Catholic junior Scott Van Kooten, who went 15:47, eight seconds ahead of Brown.
