Welcome to the reshuffled edition of the Great 8! With the weather finally cooperating with the busy PA track schedule, the athletes responded with outstanding performances all over the state! The performances were so great that if you compared this week's list to last week, you would see a lot of changes. So with all the great marks all around, where do we start?

With most of the conversation being about the sprinters, the distance runners really took advantage of the good conditions and ran some amazing times! We'll start at the Baldwin Invitational, where for a few hours, the first seven places in the race were the top seven times in the state! Zach Hebda of North Hills ran a PA#2 9:11.48 to beat out defending AAA 3200 meter champion Ryan Gil who ran 9:13.12 (more on Gil shortly). Under 24 hours later, that pack of seven was broken up by the thunderstorm delayed 3200 meter run at the Henderson Invitational. They produced four top 8 performances including a state leading time of 9:07.66 from Unionville's Glen Burkhardt. Seven of the top eight times are under 9:20 on the great 8 list. Will we see a sub 9 in these final three weekends?

The 1600 added five new performances in the top six, led by Gil's converted mile win of 4:13.70. Alex Moran of Mount Lebanon finished behind Gil for PA#2. Nate McClafferty of Conrad Weiser won the 1600 at Henderson in 4:15.50 with Logan Mohn of Governor Mifflin winning the Shaner Invite in 4:16.87, both PA#3 and PA#4 respectively. In the 800, Drew Magaha of Upper Moreland and Hong Cho of Wissahickon both cracked the 1:53 mark. Magaha ran 1:52.17 at William Tennent for US#7 while Cho ran 1:52.82 on his home track at the Trojan Invitational. Luke Lefebure of West Chester Henderson ran 1:53.21 on his home track for PA#3 with Friends Central's Alex Sheltzer running 1:54.31 for PA#5!

The 100 meter dash picked up a lot of steam this week! Before the week started, you could run low 11 seconds to make the great 8. Now PA#8 is 10.96! Clay Allen of West Middlesex ran a PA#2 time of 10.68 TWICE at the Oil Country Invitational. Kevin Day of Glen Mills won the Boys Delco title in 10.76 for PA#3. Rashaad Williams of Central Bucks West (10.84h) and Shakeil Carter of Bethel Park (10.89) also broke the 10.9 mark. In the 200, five of the top six came from this weekend. Matt Gilmore improved his PA#1 with a 21.48 at Wissahickon until Eric Futch of Penn Wood capped off his historic DELCO Championship weekend with a state leading 21.32. Ronnie Gillespie of Upper Perkiomen ran 22.06 in the prelims at Henderson for PA#4 before thunderstorms ruined his opportunity to break 22 seconds in the finals. Nicholas Patton of Tyrone Area ran 22.06 to win the AA West Central Coaches and have a PA#2 time for AA. Gilmore improved his state lead in the 400 and was able to keep it this week with a 48.11. Tyler Gallen of Cardinal O'Hara went back to PA#2 with a Delco champs win of 48.33. Those two are the only under 49 and there's six under 49.50, five of those six from this weekend.

Delware County dominated the hurdles list this week, going PA#1,2 & 3 in the 110 meter hurdles separated by .02 seconds! Indoor state champion Chris Williams of Strath Haven ran 14.23 for the state lead with Futch of Penn Wood running 14.24 and Day of Glen Mills running 14.25. Futch also improved his state lead in the 300 meter hurdles with a blazing time of 37.47. Wellington Zaza (38.62 PA#3) and Penn Wood's Johnathon Stiles (38.70 PA#4) also cracked the top five from the same meet. Kolin Jeffers of Methacton ran 38.29 for PA#2 at Henderson.

Quiet activity in the relays, with only two new 4x100 meter relays making the list. Council Rock North ran a PA#4 time of 42.64h to win the Helman Invite and Upper Darby running a PA#7 time of 42.82 to win the DELCO title. Wissahickon went back to the PA#6 spot in the 4x400 with a time of 3:21.08.

In field event action, Matt Green of Belle Vernon (23-5.50 PA#2) and Tyrek Edwards of Archbishop Ryan (23-3.50, PA#3) cracked the long jump top three, moving the number of 23 foot plus jumpers to six. The triple jump added a 2nd 50 foot jumper in Reading's Imani Brown (50-0.50 PA#2). Darrell Crawford of GAR Memorial (47-3 PA#4) and Deron Lee of Altoona (47-0.50 PA#5) cracked the 47 foot mark this week. Patrick Anderson of Kane Area had a big clearance in the pole vault of 15-8 to improve his state lead. Ryan Steinbugl of Altoona cleared 15-2 for PA#2, moving the 15 foot plus club to four. Chris Williams of Strath Haven, a 15 footer last year, cleared 14-9 for PA#5 at Delco Champs.

Scott Rushton of Episcopal Academy came close to the 60 foot mark over the weekend with a Delco Champs winning throw of 59-6, almost two feet better than PA#2. Matt Bell of Hickory had a PA#3 throw of 56-7 to win the Baldwin Invite and Mike Recla of Bloomsburg won the Bloomsburg Invite with a PA#5 throw of 56-1.50. Chazz Wilks of Cardinal O'Hara had a big personal best in the discus with a PA#3 mark of 174-5 at Delco Champs. Finally, the javelin added two more 200 foot throwers! Ben Koyack of Oil City won the Oil Country Invite with a PA#3 mark of 203-1.50 and Kyle Hefkin of State College threw a PA#4 mark of 201-7 to win the AAA West Central Coaches Invite.
