Unlike last year when Unionville was a clear favorite to win Districts and States(which they did!) 2005 appears to be a true race to the finish with the
winner possibly coming from one of 12 TEAMS (alphabetically)---CB WEST--CRNORTH--DOWNEAST--GREATVAL--HATBORO--NPENN--RADNOR--STRATH HAVEN--UNIONVILLE--UPPER DUB--WCHEND--and WISSAHICKON. Here are some interesting facts and trends and results that may help you predict the top 6 (6 will qualify for States!)
UNIONVILLE--#1 in 2004 #3 in 2003 --returns 4(one injured?) from last year\'s top 6--beat CBW and NPENN on 9-10---has not run in many big meets--still may be the team to beat
CBWEST--Possibly no runner in top 20 but good depth--beat NPENN on 9-10--beat CRNORTH on 9-24-- ran well against unbelievably strong field at Paul Short(District course)
RADNOR--Super top 4 (could have 3 in top 15 and one at 30) (all are underclassmen)--5th runner is about 1:30 behind #4--Beat STR HAV last 3 meets
UPPER DUBLIN--# 6 in 2004--finished only 20 behind Parkland and Cumber Val at Carlisle--beat WISS for league title by 9--strong #1 runner
NORTH PENN--#8 2004 #4 2003 #2 2002 #1 2001 # 4 2000---Beat CRNORTH for league title by 17---#1 and #5 less than 30 seconds apart!!--beat WISS in dual meet--4 of top 5 back from 2004
HATBORO HORSHAM--# 5 2004 #1 2003 #1 2002 #6 2001 #6 2000---beat WCH on 9-24--beat NPENN on 10-1--5 of top 6 back from 2004
COUNCIL ROCK NORTH-- # 3 2004 # 4 2002 --3rd place at Steel City--beat GREATVAL--very strong #1 runner
WEST CHESTER HENDERSON-- # 2 2004(# 3 in State) #2 2003---2nd Manchester, NH big meet--ran well at Abington and Belmont
WISSAHICKON-- #9 2004 # 1 2000--beat RAD and STR HAV on 9-10 and 9-24--beat HH and NPENN on 10-1--ran in many tough meets (well tested!)
STRATH HAVEN-- # 4 2004--5th Elite race at Bull Run,MD--#2 runner back last 2 races from injury--should have 5 runners under 20:00 at Lehigh--4 of top 5 back from 2004
DOWNINGTOWN EAST--2nd large schools at Bulldog--2nd at Tennent close to St. Basils--beat WCH and won league title
GREAT VALLEY-- # 7 2004 # 4 2001 # 2 2000--should have 2 runners in top 25--ran well at Steel City--5 of top 6 back from 2004
As far as the individual title---Liz Costello of CONESTOGA is running great(17:59 at Lehigh on 10-1) (18:35 in rain at Rose Tree on 10-22) Giving up soccer has made her DOMINANT!! (Other soccer girls should do the same!!) Someone will have to go off to give her a challenge!!!
Other info.---For those of us who love getting freshman phenoms or at least freshmen who make our Varsity--I tracked girls who ran in the seeded race at Districts as freshmen who will be seniors this year to see how they ran as sophomores and then as juniors--(looking at times). As sophs 9 better 8 worse--As juniors compared to freshman year 10 better 5 worse(however 4 of the top 5 as freshmen ran way worse)--???We\'ll see how they run as seniors!
No matter which 6 teams make it to states---YOU CAN BET THOSE TEAMS WILL PROUDLY REPRESENT DISTRICT ONE!!!
