Saturday PM: Men's 10,000 -- Sixth at the 2010 World Junior Championships in Canada, Oregon's Parker Stinson was dominant here on the way to a 30:37.88 victory that saw him almost half a lap ahead of the next finisher. Alex Monroe of Lock Haven won bronze at 31:21.42.

Sunday AM: Men's 10K Racewalk -- The current and former American Junior record holders were in the race, but Colombia's Eider Arevalo was the heavy favorite and he didn't disappoint. Trevor Barron (Bethel Park PA - homeschooled), the U.S. senior 20K champion from Eugene in June and former AJR holder, executed his pre-race plan well but could not overcome Arevalo's finishing speed as he placed second at 41:39.16, ten seconds behind Arevalo. Tyler Sorensen, the current AJR holder, did not fare as well, ending up fifth at 44:38.17.

Sunday PM: Women's javelin -- American Junior and high school record holder Avione Allgood of North Las Vegas, Nev., threw her way to gold with a PAJ meet record 53.06/174-1 on her fifth attempt. Fawn Miller of Florida completed the Team USA sweep with a silver medal-winning effort of 47.26/155-1.

QUOTE
Trevor Barron (silver, men's 10K walk) -- "I was excited to come here for international competition. Knowing it was only 10K, I was ready for the distance. There are some changes from the 20K, and I have been building up for the longer distance working on a long push. I knew I wouldn't be as fast at the finish as Arevalo, so I went hard through the middle of the race. He is a World Cup champion, so I knew it would be tough to win. I went to Colombia for a month earlier this year and I knew Arevalo. My time at the Olympic Training Center has been very helpful. This is my first international medal, and I am very thankful for all the help I have received from USATF and others."

Hazelton repeats as Cook race winner

CHAMBERSBURG -- Jill Hazelton, 36, of Chambersburg, won the women's/girl's race at The Eighth Annual Tim and Susan Cook Memorial ChambersFest One-Mile Race for the second year in a row Saturday. Running the race in 5:30, she improved upon her winning time of a year ago, 5:40:8.

Ryun Holder, 16, of Chambersburg, won the men's/boy's race with a time of 4:29.

In addition to Cook Race plates, both received two tickets to Hersheypark and a $25 gift certificate to The Orchards restaurant.

Finishing second in the women's/girl's race was Laurie Jones at 5:34, and Natalie Holder, Ryun's sister, was third, at 5:40.

Finishing second in the men's/boy's race was Nick Rotz, with a time of 4:30, followed by Tim Fisler in third, at 4:45.

The race, named in memory of teacher/coach Tim Cook and his wife, was held between Chambersburg Area Middle School and Chambersburg Area High School. More than 160 people participated. In addition to the races, a Fun/Run Walk was held.

Proceeds are used for scholarships, awarded to Chambersburg Area High School students who model the characteristics exemplified by the Tim and Susan Cook. Recipients of the scholarship this year were Andrew Stadler, a student excelling in math, and Olivia Beckner, a student excelling in business curricula. Winners receive the scholarships from the Chambersburg Area School District Foundation in May.

The Greater Chambersburg Chamber of Commerce works with Chambersburg Road Runners Club and business sponsors to present the event each year. People of all ages participate -- from toddlers in strollers to senior citizens. Race winners in various age categories receive plates.

The Cook memorial was the first event of this year's ChambersFest, which will continue through July 30. For a full schedule, click on the Community and ChambersFest links at www.chambersburg.org.
