It is the weekend of meets statewide, with the TSTCA getting underway at Slippery Rock, a meet in State College, and college-hosted meets at East Stroudsburg, Kutztown and Lebanon Valley... plus a big meet at the NY Armory, the two-day Hispanic Games.

1/5: State College HS Invitational @ Multisport Center, PSU: (Note: Complete results were not yet available, so this summary is based upon the performances as reported.) State College junior Katherine Ward won two events, the Mile in 5:16.9 and the 800 in 2:30.9. Teammate Edel Crowe was 1st in the 3000 at 10:56.4. Sara Scott, also of State College, took the Long and Triple Jumps with 17-00.50 and 35-08.50 performances, and took the 60 dash in 8.2 and anchored the 1:52.4 4x200 with a split of 27.0. Kyle Rogers of Altoona, won the 60 in a 6.9.

1/6: Colgate Women's Games HS wek#2 @ Pratt Institute: Engineering & Science's LaVaughn Jones won her 2nd straight 1500, this one in 4:56.3, over a second faster than she did 12/30 on the slow Pratt Institute track. Teammate Benita Taylor won the 800 in 2:24.9 and took 6th in the 400 in 1:00.5.

1/6: DVGTCA Indoor Meet #5 @ Lehigh University: If the event involves speed or jumping ability, chances are you'll find sophomore talent Ryann Krais giving it a try, and in turn, doing well. She has already run a US#1 time in the 60 Hurdles (8.82), and won virtually everything she has entered. This week, she added the 600 meter run, going 1:39.4 for an easy win. She also took over the top spot in PA with a Long Jump of 18-03.75, which is a tie for US#4. West Chester Henderson won a very fast DMR, going 12:43.3 to beat Cardinal O'Hara by 2.5 seconds. Shaniel Chambers, a Chester sophomore, upped the PA best in the Triple Jump to 36-03.75. Karen Shump of Penncrest was over 42 feet in the Shot Put. And St. Basil's Kathleet Davies won the Mile in 5:19.3.

1/6: Emrey/ESU Warrior Classic @ East Stroudsburg University: Harrisburg's Delon Isom captured the 55 Hurdles with a time of 7.4, while teammate Matt Davisleapt 43-0 to win the Triple Jump. Megan VanBuskirk of Pottsgrove was a double winner, taking the Long Jump at 15-11 and the Triple Jump with a leap of 35-03.

1/6: TSTCA Indoor Meet #1 @ Slippery Rock University: Bradford senior >B>Erin Hannon started her indoor season with a US#3 performance in the Triple Jump, soaring 38-05. She also took a second in the 55 Hurdles, going 8.6, two-tenths behind Center's >B?Lindsay Dolan. The girls Shot Put is sure to be awesome this season, as two girls from western PA have now joined Penncrest's Karen Shump in the 40-foot club. Hempfield's Samantha Fetter tossed in a US#2 42-11, while Center's Allyn Laughlin was 2nd with a throw of 41-05. Caitlin Hewitt is back in familiar air after helping her cross country team win the state AAA title, clearing 11-0 to win her first Pole Vault competition of the season. Penn Trafford's Diana Filtz had a good night, taking the Mile in 5:25.6, and getting 2nd to Katie Orchowski of Upper St. Clair in the 800 by less than a second. Orchowski ran 2:29.3. In boys' competition, Max Brown of North Allegheny and Jake Walker of Ellwood City battled it out in a quick mile, with Brown getting the edge in 4:24.5, 1.7 seconds ahead of Walker. Brice Myers of McDowell got the lean on Valley's Toney Clemons in the 55 Hurdles, both clocked with a 7.7. Myers also took 5th in the Triple Jump at 40-07.50. Baldwin's Bill Nguyan leapt 44-09, 2nd in PA so far this season.

1/7-8: Citibank Hispanic Games @ New York Armory: Simon Gratz posted the #1 time in the US in the 4x200 with a 1:28.41, and also captured the 4x400 in a US#3 3:22.32. Council Rock North senior Ricky Goettel posted a PA#1 time of 50.27 for 6th in the 400, while Gratz's Kenneth Talley went 22.00 to win the 200. Also posting a PA#1 time was Jamar Jones of Engineering & Science with his 3rd place 1:56.99 in the 800. For the girls, Beki Finn of Liberty, cleared 11-06 to set a meet record in her Pole Vault win. Amber Gaffey of Susquehanna Community was 4th, clearing 11-0. And LaVaughn Jones of Engineering & Science ran 5:10.67 to take 5th in the Mile.

1/7: Kutztown HS Invitational @ Kutztown University: Easton's Jessica Dorsey ran a PA#2 time of 7.44 to win the 55 meter dash. Teammate Chanelle Price took 2nd to Tatnall DE's Katie Kershner in the 1600, 5:13.07 to 5:14.66). And Abbie Schafer, also of Easton, cleared 10-06 to win the Pole Vault. Javan Sanders of Avon Grove posted the 2nd best 55 dash in PA this season with a 6.60 win. William Allen's Rushane Scott was second at 6.63 with Spring Ford's Leighon Johnson 3rd at 6.75. Johnson also won the Long Jump with a PA#2 mark of 22-00.50. And the 55 Hurdles were quick, with Zach Barker of Southern Lehigh running 7.8 to win by a tenth-of-a-second over Norristown's Peter Selby.

1/7: Lebanon Valley College Indoor Meet #1 @ Lebanon Valley College: Chamberburg's Sarah Morrison posted a strong double, taking the 800 in 2:23.0 and the 1600 in 5:13.0. State College's Katherine Ward was 2nd in two events, to Morrison in the 800 in 2:28.9 and to Cedar Cliff's Kassie Meholick in the 3200, 11:30.1 to 11:39.7. Meholick took 2nd to Morrison in the 1600, going 5:26.6. Eric Wisler of Garden Spot went 7.8 to take the 55 Hurdles. Big Spring's Sam Wall won the Shot Put with a toss of 52-04.25.

1/7: TFCAGP D1 Indoor Meet #5 @ Lehigh University: In their first races since cross country, Greg Thomas of Cardinal O'hara and Pat Jeffers of LaSalle picked up where they left off... at the front. Thomas pulled away in the 3000 to win by a little less than three seconds, going 9:04.2. State High Jump leader Jay Pittinger cleared 6-04 to win on misses over Bonner;'s P.J. Shirdan. North Penn's Brandon Turner turned in a PA#4 Long Jump of 21-01. Cody Edling of North Penn beat Hatboro-Horsham's Josh Hibbs 4:26.8 to 4:29.4 in the Mile.

1/7: TFCAGP D2 Indoor Meet #5 @ Lehigh University: Wissahickon's Paul Thistle set the pace for most of the race, and had a good gap until the final two laps, when Radnor's Sean Mahoney began to close, passing Thistle in the final straight to win a quick 3000 8:57.7 to 8:58.3. Thistle also led off the winning DMR, which ran 10:55.2. Strath Haven's Scott Henkleman posted a 200 of 22.9. And there was strong competition between "Friends" as Zach Malet of Friends' Central and Elliot Rhodes of Germantown Friends went 1:59.4, 1:59.7, respectively in the 800 for 2nd and 3rd behind the 1:59.3 winning effort from Upper Dublin's Matt Gordon.

1/7: WV Flyers Indoor #1 @ University of West Virginia: Oakland Catholic senior Charelise Davis was a double winner, taking the 60 meter dash in 7.92 and the 200 in 26.44. Schenley senior Kaetlyn Brown was tops in the 400 with her 1:01.33.

1/8: USATF Mid-Atlantic Indoor Youth Meet #1 @ Lehigh University: It was a great day for PA pole-vaulting as Whitehall senior Brooke Borso cleared 11-09, US#7. Four other girls cleared 10 - 10-06. Hallahan's Shanae Thomas went 7.28 to win the 55 dash. Cecil Wise, running for Morris Estate Track ran 6.43 for the same distance.

D1 3000: Greg Thomas holds off Pat Jefffers in another
O'Hara-LaSalle battle, both under 9:08.


D1 mile: Hatboro's Josh Hibbs tried to get away from North Penn's
Cody Edling, but in the end, fiinished less than three seconds back.


D1 800: Duriel Hardy, West Chester East, went 2:00.1 .

D2 3000: Radnor's Sean Mahoney and Wissahickon's
Paul Thistle went 8:57.7-8:58.3, respectively.


D2 800: Upper Dublin's Matt Gordon came from behind to win in 1:59.3.

D2 DMR: Wisshanickon wins in 10:55.2.
