The Penn Relays Carnival

Eric Futch of Penn Wood dominated the top seed and the field from the 9th hurdle in to capture the 400 meter Hurdles in 51.77, tie for Penn Relays #6 all-time.
In the HSG Tri-State 4x100 Championship, Central Dauphin East won and improved their PA#1 time to 47.64. Swenson was 2nd in 48.08; Pennridge 3rd in 48.37 and Norristown 6th in 48.85. In the HSB Small School 4x100 Championship, Strath Haven improved their PA#3 time to 42.38, finishing 4th. And in the Large Schools 4x100, Neshaminy was 3rd in 42.62. They are already PA#1 with a mark of 42.16.
Chris Williams of Strath Haven, PRed and took over PA#2 with his first clearance of 16 feet, going 16-0.75 to finish second in the pole vault. Kane's Patrick Anderson clear 15-1 and finishes 5th on misses.
Reading's Imani Brown leapt 48-11.75 to secure 2nd in the triple jump. Strath Haven's Wellington Zaza was 4th with a jump of 47-04.50.
Ibn Short of Milton Hershey tied his PA#1 mark of 6-9, finishing 3rd on misses in the high jump.
Richard Gatewood of Roman Catholic was 8th in the long jump, going 22-1.
Friday
South Park senior Billy Stanley came to Philly and won the boys javelin with a Meet Record throw of 223-3, bettering his own PR by 3 feet. All six of the Ohio State-bound spearman's throws were over 203.3. The runner-up was David Reinhardt of Bradford, who PRed with a throw of 201-4.
In the HSB 4x800, both Pennridge and Chambersburg qualified for the Championship of America.
In the HSG Championship of America 4x800, Strath Haven finished 5th (2nd American team) in 9:17.41 (Allie Wilson (2:21.3), Kristen Miller (2:12.9), Megan O'Dell (2:25.3), Hannah Grossman (2:17.9) - Downingtown East was 9th in 9:21.74 (9:21.74 Sarah Black (2:19.1), Danielle Castaldi (2:16.0), Anja Weiler (2:22.7), - and West Chester Henderson was 11th in 9:27.49.
In the featured afternoon track events, LaSalle set a school record with their 3rd place 10:10.74 in the DMR (Andrew Stone (3:05.4), Mike DeCandido (50.8), Jack Magee (2:02.5), Tom Coyle (4:12.1). North Penn was 7th in 10:20.40 (Chris Trimble (3:07.6), Matt Ross (50.0), Misha Khodak (2:01.3), Jack Macauley (4:21.5)
Drew Magaha of Upper Moreland pulled back nearly all the field in the final 600 of the mile before running out of real estate for his 4:12.74 mile.
And in the 3000, running his final of three Penn Relays 3000 meter runs, Chestnut Hill Academy's Dustin Wilson closed strong, joining a sprinting group of three over the last 250, and pulling into third over the last stretch to finish in 8:30.18. Brenden Shearn of North Schuylkill was 8th in 8:36.65.
Neshaminy boys had the fastest PA time in the 4x100 meter relay heats, running 42.63 to finish 14th overall. Pennsbury also cracked the top twenty, running 42.90 to finish 17th.
The Swenson girls finished 7th in the small school 4x100 meter relay with a PA#2 time of 47.85. Central Dauphin East were victorious in the large school 4x100 meter relay with a state leading time of 47.82. Pennridge ran 48.95 to finish 5th. Swenson and CD East will meet in the Tri-State Champs on Saturday.
Kyle Long of Hempfield (3) finished 2nd in the discus and improved on his state leading mark with a throw of 193-4! 4th place went to Bryan Pearson of Bangor, who threw a PA#2 mark of 181-4! Chazz Wilks of Cardinal O'Hara was 9th with a throw of 160-2. In the shot put, Kyle Felpel of Cocalico threw 61-10.50 to finish in 4th place. Praduman Singh of Upper Darby finished 9th with a mark of 54-9.50.
Thursday
In her attempt to 3 peat at the Penn Relays, Angel Piccirillo of Homer Center ran 4:47.49 to finish 2nd in the mile to new meet record holder Mary Cain (NY). Kennedy Weisner of Elk County Catholic ran 4:53.71 to finish 5th.
Tori Gerlach of Pennridge edged out 2nd place in the 3000 meter run with a time of 9:42.92. Megan McGovern of North Penn was 5th in 9:46.30.
The first day produced three gold medal winners. The first winner was Rachel Fatherly of Williamsport, the state leader in the shot put. Today she took the gold medal with a mark of 47-5.
Christine Streissel of Tamaqua won the gold medal in the javelin after finishing 2nd last year. The senior threw 154-11 to win the event.
Larisa Debich of Hempfield (7) won the pole vault with a clearance of 12-5.50. She even had an attempt at the meet record of 13-1.50.
On the track, Swenson finished 16th overall in the 4x100 meter relay with a PA#2 time of 47.94. Pennridge (PA#3 47.95) and Central Dauphin East also cracked the top twenty. Coatesville had the fastest PA 4x400 meter relay time of the day with a new PA#2 time of 3:53.00 to finish 13th overall. Central Bucks West ran 3:53.20 to finish right behind Coatesville.
Other highlights included a 3rd place finish in the javelin from Sarah Firestone of Mercersburg (PA#5 144-10) and a 5th place finish from Kelsey Carlsen of Northeast Bradford (142-10). Amanda Benninghoff of Council Rock South finished 8th in the pole vault with a PA#4 mark of 11-9.75. Carter Green of North Schuylkill finished 7th in the discus with a PA#3 throw of 136-3, while Sarah Fairbanks of Elizabethtown Area finished right behind her with a PA#7 mark of 128-8.
Taylor Morgan of Upper Dublin was 3rd in the high jump with a new state leading clearance of 5-8.25. Megan McCloskey of Germantown finished tied for 8th with a PA#3 mark of 5-6.75.
In the 4x800, three PA teams advanced to the Championship of America - Strath Haven, Downingtown East, and West Chester Henderson.
