Phil. Public League Championship
Freshman Tya Carodine, who had only won a single race all season, picked the biggest meet of the year to run first for Public League Champ Central High, going 20:50 to hold off teammate Evan Vance by five seconds. The budding star has extensive club experience racing for Cambria TC, and used that experience to maintain contact with Vance coming out of the woods after two miles, before using the hill and flats to her advantage. Central went 1-2-5-7-8 for just 23 points. In the boys' race, Central's Mike Syrnick had to reel in teammate Jon Cartwright over the tough second mile before pulling away to win in 16:37. Cartwright was 25 seconds back. Central went 1-2-3-5-6 for just 17 points. The perfect score was broken up by David Sarrahima of Northeast, who was 4th in a PR of 17:53.
