10/27 - Snow, hail, wind and mud can't stop the pre-race favorites

PIAA District 10 Championships

The snow, hail, wind and mud couldn't stop the pre-race favorites from what they considered their rightful places - first. Andy Weilacher, who many see as the top male runner in PA this year, AA or AAA, took first in 16:18 to lead his Eisenhower team to the title 44-83 over West Middlesex. In AA girls, Jesi Christensen, the defending AA state champ, won another title with her 19:41, but Eisenhower's top two rsunners, Heather Wilmth, and Rachel Tutmaher, took 2nd and 3rd to lead their team to the District championship with 116 points. Titusville was 2nd with 133. In the boys' AAA race, brothers Eric (11th grade), and Brian (10th grade) Soder, went one-two, separated by less than half a second in 16:49. The effort helped their Harborcreek team to the district title by a single point, 56-57 over General McLane. And in girls' AAA, Kelly Richards, General McLane, took the individual title in 19:51, while the one-two McDowell punch of Stephanie Strub (12th), and Emily Evans (9th), went two-three to lead the Erie team to the AAA championship.
