Dear Coach,
Welcome to the 2012 track season, I’m sure you’re as excited about the upcoming season as we are. The Franklin coaching staff would like to invite you to The Fifth Annual Franklin Area Invitational on Saturday, April 28, at Franklin Area High School. This event we be posted on www.pa.milesplit.com in mid-March. All entries will be made using Milesplit. We look forward to building on the success of the past four invitational’s. With our new sports complex, we are looking to add to the field of 14 schools that have participated in the past and would welcome up to 18 teams.
The entry fee for the meet is $10 per athlete, $85 for boys or girls teams, or $170 per school with both boys and girls teams. Checks need to be made payable to the Red and Black Booster Club and may be sent to the enclosed address by April 20, 2012. A maximum of three athletes per event will be permitted with a maximum of four events per athlete. Medals will be awarded to first through sixth place. Team trophies for the top three teams will also be awarded. Only the top Six in each event will count for team score.

grove@fasd.k12.pa.us, or fax me the enclosed form at 814-432-5031 and include a current e-mail address, no later than April 15 to confirm your attendance. This is especially important if you have not participated in our meet in the past, as I send updates via e-mail prior to the event. You will need to enter your rosters on www.pa.milesplit.com, the close date will be Noon, Friday, April 27. I will e-mail all attending if that date is moved.
This will be a scratch meet only for individual events. All changes need to be made by noon on Friday, April 27. The only substitutions that will be permitted will be the alternate to your relay team.
The format of this year’s invitational is enclosed.
Franklin Invite General Information
- Coaches Meeting 8:30 a.m. at the start/finish line.
- The track is located at Franklin H.S. on Pone lane, ½ mile east of Route 8, south of Franklin. There is a traffic light on Route 8 at the entrance of Pone Lane.
- The track is a six-lane, newly resurfaced polyurethane surface. Jumping and vaulting runways are also the same. The shot and discus pads are concrete. The javelin runway is grass and spikes will be needed.
- Running shoes without spikes or with 3/16 maximum pin or pyramid spikes must be worn on all polyurethane surfaces.
- The Bull Pen will be located near the 100 meter start line. Runners will be arranged in heats according to times submitted by their coaches.
- The top 12 runners will run a two heat final in the 100, 200, 100 or 110 hurdles.
- Top 7 throwers, long jumpers, and triple jumpers will advance to the final round. Throwers and Jumpers will receive three more attempts to improve their mark with the best overall attempt counting.
- Volunteers: We ask that you provide at least one volunteer coach from each team to work the field events. Please include their names and event preference either via e-mail or fax the enclosed form. If a volunteer is not provided the school will be listed in the program and the event will not proceed until a worker is assigned.
- The Middle School gymnasium will only be open if there is inclement weather.
- Restrooms are located at the track near the concession stand and will serve as the primary bathroom facility.
- The Red and Black concession stand will be open during the event.
- T-shirts will be sold on a first come, first serve basis.
- The trainer’s tent will be located near the concession stand.
- Awards may be picked up at the end of the event at the press box. Awards will be sorted and marked by team and by athlete. Team trophies will be awarded at the conclusion of the event.
