Meet Information
New in 2009, includes a walk
Every year the Alumni Race has grown and has brought more and more Alumni back to the farm fields and back to the old cross country course that has been the base for the new cross country course. The first coach from the Solanco Program returned last year as well as four other coaches who have been and are still involved with the running program at Solanco. The Cross Country program at Solanco High School is not comprised simply of Coach Weaver, Coach Haines, Coach Nardella and the athletes. The Solanco Program runs deeper than simply the people who show up to practice every day. Steeped into the community in Lancaster are alumni and family members of alumnus and current athletes who directly or indirectly contribute to the success and continuation of the running program at Solanco. One of the reasons why former Solanco Athletes continue to run throughout their lives and continue to stay involved in the current Solanco Running program could be that Solanco Cross Country nurtures each athlete in every desired area if he/she allows for it. Athletes who come into the program from all areas of social backgrounds are accepted and welcomed and as we yearn for the abilities to be disciplined and succeed as a result of this discipline, Solanco Cross Country feeds these two areas. The program has had no more than 5 coaches since its birth back in the 1960's and the same basic principles and traditions hold strong within the program today. You earn respect through hard work and dedication, you succeed through self-sacrifice for the betterment of the team, and you can take the skills learned through distance running and apply them to all aspects of your life.
If you or anyone have any questions or need a registration form mailed to you please contact Michael Cavanaugh: (717) 333-6155 and/or mikecav@Epix.net OR Scott Weaver: (717) 786-4470 and/or beefrattle@comcast.net.
