Chloe May and Baylee Espinosa, two underclassmen, separated themselves from the field early. Espinosa dropped the hammer over the final mile and claimed the win in 18:37-flat. This win comes a week after Espinosa won the PIAA Foundation 2A race.Frederick (MD) just edged out Crestwood in the team battle; 109-111. Central Cambria finished in third with 123.Steven Todd with a Massive Season 5K DebutSteven Todd ran away from the competition on the boys champion side. Todd made his 2023 5k debut and ran 16:12 to score a 13-second victory. Bishop Shanahan would end up finished second with Todd at the helm.Scoring the team victory was Washingtonville (NY). They outright dominated despite only having five runners finish. They scored just 91-points to Bishop Shanahan's 223. West Chester East finished in third.Schwelm and Highduch go Toe-to-ToeFormer Penncrest and now Tatnall Standout Ruby Schwelm separated herself from the lead pack early. Governor Mifflin's Kaitlyn Highduch responded to her move and chased Schwelm around the 3.1 mile course. Eventually Schwelm was able to create some separation and win with an 18:03. Breakout runner, Kaitlyn Highduch finished second with an 18:06.7Tatnall was in a league of their own in the team battle. The squad scored a 27-point victory with 5 runners in the top-8.Abington Heights finished second and Padua Academy finished in third.Thrilling Team Battle in the Boys ChallengeLa Salle College High School and University High battled in the Challenge race. Nationally ranked University High (WV) was able to outscore La Salle College 54-62, averaging 15:59 to La Salle's 16:03.That would mean the difference for the two squads.Individually, James Partlow of Gov. Thomas Johnson High posted a huge personal best of 15:18 to run away from Cole Casadei who finished in second with his 15:23.
