Meet Information

VII. Middle School Track & Field
A. Rules - National Federation Rules will be used unless superseded by League rules approved by the Athletic Directors. All Inter-Ac varsity track & field meets will be governed by the constitution of the Inter-Academic Athletics League.
1. A student-athlete is limited to a maximum of three (3) events with any combination of field or running events. Participation on a relay team is not included as part of the maximum. (Effective August 1, 2017)
a. Student-athletes competing in the 1600 m event may compete in only one other running event, other than the 800 m Run, but may be in one field event. (Effective August 1, 2025)
2. In all Inter-Ac track & field meets, student-athletes will be disqualified on the second false start.
3. In all Inter-Ac track & field meets, the hurdle height shall be set at 30" and the distance shall be 100m. (Effective August 1, 2025)
4. In all Inter-Ac track & field meets, the shot put weight shall be:
a. Boys - 4kg (Effective August 1, 2025)
b. Girls - 6lbs. (Effective August 1, 2025)
3. An Inter-Ac record may be set at either the Trials or the Championship Meet.
B. It is suggested, but not required, that there be one paid official (starter) from a certified officials' organization for all Inter-Ac track & field meets. This official will also serve as a referee, will rule on all protests, and his/her decision is final.
C. In all Inter-Ac track & field meets, all student-athletes from each school must be wearing the same standard-colored uniforms for the purpose of neatness and identification. The referee will disqualify athletes who violate this rule.
D. In all Inter-Ac track & field meets, including the Championship Meet, there will be three (3) attempts given to each participant in the Long Jump and the Shot Put.
1. In the Championship Meet each participant will receive three (3) attempts. The top six (6) athletes will enter the finals, and each shall be given one (1) more attempt. Jumps and throws from either the trials or finals can count in the final placing.
E. Once a student-athlete has competed in a varsity league dual meet, he/she may not compete in a league junior level dual meet and may not run in the league Junior Championship Meet.
F. In all Inter-Ac track & field meets, including the Championship Meet, placing will be based on time.
G. Dual Meets
1. Order of Events
a. Field events begin at the start of the meet with open pits at Long Jump and Shot Put, with High Jump beginning at the conclusion of the Long Jump.
b. Hurdles
c. 1600m
d. 100m
e. 400m
f. 800m
g. 200m
h. 4x100 relay
2. Where the 400 m Dash and the 400 m Relay can be run in lanes, this will occur. Where they cannot, the "break for the pole" rule will be in effect, after careful explanation from the coaches.
3. In the High Jump, the coaches will agree upon the starting height.

H. Championship Meet
1. A student-athlete may compete in only one Inter-Ac Track Championship per year. When he/she competes in a championship, he/she is ineligible for any other (League?) championship competition for the rest of the season.
2. The Championship Meet will be held the week of the varsity championships and will include grades 6, 7, and 8. Girls and boys will run and scored separately for each school.
3. Awards - Ribbons will be awarded to the first five places in each event:
a. 1st place - Blue Ribbon
b. 2nd place - Red Ribbon
c. 3rd place - Yellow Ribbon
d. 4th place - White Ribbon
e. 5th place - Green Ribbon
4. There will be at least one paid official from a certified officials' organization (starter). The host school is expected to provide the other necessary officials in order to make the meet run smoothly.
a. This official will serve also as referee. His/her decision is final.
5. It is the responsibility of the host school to provide a certified trainer.
6. Order of Events

7. An official result sheet will be kept at Penn Charter for historical purposes and to keep track of all-time age group records.

9. In the High Jump, the coaches will agree upon the starting heights.
