DVGTCA Indoor Meet #1
Girls Highlights
Through all the national top ten marks, Springside Chestnut Hill and Cheltenham came out flying on the opening night of the girls DVG season!
With two time 800 meter state champion Emma Keenan moving on to Georgetown, there's room for some new blood in the event. Enter Terri Turner of Springside Chestnut Hill. The freshman who was a top runner for their cross country team, came away with a win in the 800 meter run with a national leading time of 2:17.85! Kaelyn Heineke of Council Rock North ran 2:19.40 to finish 2nd. Her teammate Brooklynn Broadwater cruised in the 400 meter run and also made the national top ten list! The sopomore ran 58.83 to earn US#4 honors and she finished nearly 3 seconds ahead of the field.
Meanwhile, Cheltenham dominated the short sprints and hurdles and set the tone for what could be a special season. Ciara Leonard is now the top hurdler for her team after the graduation of Kayla Coley and she reminded everyone just how skilled she is. She ran a national leading time of 8.94 to win the 60 meter hurdles over Holly Sullivan of Owen J Roberts.
Katelyn Jackson dominated the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.73 (T-US#3), which is not far off her 2012-13 indoor best of 7.67. Chanel Brisset capped off the individual treble with a 200 meter win in 26.43 to hold off sophomore Dasia Pressley of Neshaminy. Cheltenham capped off the night with a 4x200 meter relay win in 1:49.00, with the three individual winners joined by Janiel Slowly.
Other highlights feature Strath Haven taking home two relay gold medals, shooting up to the top of the national list in the 4x800 meter relay in 9:39.5 and taking home the 4x400 meter relay in a US#2 time of 4:06.20. Allie Wilson and Kristen Miller featured on both relays for Strath Haven. And Cheltenham ran a PA#1, US#10 4x200 of 1:49.00.
In the field, Holly Sullivan followed up her 2nd place in the hurdles with a win in the long jump with a US#2 mark of 18 feet even.
