Boys' 800 meters

Kolor, Perretta, Hoey, Wisner, Wagner...who ya got?
After a killer season from Jaxson Hoey of Downingtown West,
it looks like most of the top distance runners in PA opted against running in
the mile and going for the double. That will present a major challenge for
Jaxson Hoey in the 8, who is coming off the mile earlier in the day.
This field, by the way, is loaded. Seneca Valley's Mike Kolor is the top seed after a monster win at the TSTCA Champs at Edinboro in 1:53.82. Kolor is clearly working on all cylinders heading into Sunday. He's had a busy indoor season, but if last week was any indication he's ready to roll.

Domenic Perretta of Beaver Falls, in his first-ever indoor season, has looked incredibly strong as well. The Penn State-bound senior will get his first taste of his future workout facility on Sunday and we'll see quite the show. Matt Wisner of Carlisle is another one having a great season. He's unbeaten this season at 800 meters on four tries and he seems to be clicking heading into states. Wisner is also the top returner from states a year ago in the event.
Then, of course, Jaxson Hoey is in the field. He won impressively at the Hispanic Games in his lone half mile race of the season. He's fit for sure and won't make it easy for the fresher legs. Some may even still consider him the favorite in this event, and Hoey would love to walk away with a pair of golds (as anyone would).
Penn Trafford's Nick Wagner was just outside the medals at states last year, but he's likely got his eyes on more than just a medal this year. He's run well in 2016 and will definitely put himself in the mix on Sunday.Wagner's raced both Perretta and Kolor, and that experience could pay off for him. Colin Wills of Malvern Prep, Isaiah Bailey of Penn Hills, and Brett Wolfinger of Quakertown complete the third of three heats in what projects to be a fast and exciting race. There's also plenty to keep an eye on in the second heat, like Mount Carmel's David Fletcher, who captured an impressive win at the PTFCA Carnival.
