Liberty's Jaylyn Aminu was third in the state last year, but in 2016, her junior year, she had to deal with one returner that beat her last year (Dasia Pressley of Pennsbury) and one star newcomer (Kouri Peace of Pennridge). She was also dealing with an injury that kept her out of practice in the week leading up to the state meet.

Pressley and Peace had both run very fast sub-12 times headed into the state meet. Pressley was the District 1 champ running 11.75 just a week prior. Aminu was yet to go under 12 seconds yet this season. But Aminu, who focused entirely on the 100 meters at districts and states, came to play in the finals. Aminu dropped an 11.93 to run away from the talented field and take the state title in dominating fashion. Aminu will be back next year try and defend that championship.
