PTXC WEEKEND RECAP: PTXC 8 and Red, White & Blue Highlight First BIG Weekend of XC in PA

Big Red Invitational (West Middlesex, PA)

Jonah Powell of Grove City got his season off to an impressive start on Saturday, beating Connor Walsh of Cambridge Springs at Big red. Powell clocked a 16:42 (mere tenths off his 5K PR) to beat Walsh (16:49), who was fresh off a win at McDowell last week. Powell's Grove City squad put on a dominating performance to win the team race, scoring 67 points to beat second place New Castle by 94 points. Hickory's Chad Grundy, who won his team's invite last week was third in 17:00.

Lily Myers of Fairview continued her impressive start to her XC career. The senior, in her first season running in the fall, was second to Lauren Finikiotis last week at McDowell, and at West Middlesex on Saturday, she pulled off the win. Myers outlasted Franklin Area's Savanna Carr for the win, running a time of 20:01 to Carr's 20:04. Union City's Alyssa Boyd was a close third place, running a time of 20:10. Cranberry, led by Lauren Varsek (seventh in 21:06), were the team champions with 163 points, edging out North East (169 points) and Union City (172 points).
