10 PA#1s as Keystone Staters Shine in Staten Island: Ocean Breeze HS Invitational Recap

Ocean Breeze Invitational - GIRLS SPRINT/HURDLES RECAP

Kouri Peace is back! The Pennridge sophomore who burst onto the scene last year as a freshman, setting the state record in the 200 meters has been quiet for most of the indoor season, but Peace appeared fresh and fir at Ocean Breeze, posting some solid times in the sprints.

Peace ran the day's fastest time in the 55 meters of 7.09, a PA#3, but she didn't contest the finals. Instead, she focused on the 200 meters, where she popped off a 24.62 to put her at PA#2 behind fellow sophomore Thelma Davies of Girard College.

Cheltenham's Chanel Brissett also raced on Sunday after her season debut in the hurdles on Friday night at Lehigh. Brissett picked up the win in the 55 meters, edging out Ursuline's Najiya Cornish for the win in a time of 7.12. That's a PA#4 in the event. Brissett also ran in the prelims of the 200 meters, running the second fastest prelim time of 24.90, also a PA#4. She didn't contest the finals there.

Also in the 55 finals were a pair of rising stars, Conestoga's Grace Lanouette (third in 7.25) Penn Wood's Tatiyana Laylor (fourth in 7.26). Then in the 200 finals, CB East's Meaghan Shewbrooks was fourth and Swenson's Jada Smith was fifth.

Cheltenham cleaned up in the 400 meters. Alexis Crosby took the win in 56.13 and teammate Bria Barnes was right behind her in 56.23 for a 1-2 finish (and hey, they also went 1-2 at the Kevin Dare Invitational earlier this month). Springfield's Sydni Stovall was fourth in 57.12 and Penn Wood's Janae Pitt was sixth in 57.99.

Perkiomen Valley's Christina Warren ran 8.11 for the win in the 55-meter hurdles. It's Warren's second win of the season at Ocean Breeze, though the time was slightly off her PA#1 of 8.02 in the event. Upper Dublin's Madison Langley-Walker took fourth in the finals in a time of 8.27.
