Girls' Distance Preview

The mile is stacked on the girls' side, but no clear favorite. Souderton's Emily Bonaventure has the fastest time of anyone in the field so far this season at 5:09. Abington Heights' Kate Dammer was the runner-up in the 1600 meters from last spring and she'll be looking to pop off a quick mile to ensure a spot in the state meet. Abington's Kelly Jawork has been strong all season and she's also in the field. Penn Wood's Terri Turner has had a great indoor season in the 400 and 800 meters, but the senior will move up in distance for Saturday to the mile (she was the 1600 leg on Penn Wood's PA#1 DMR). North Penn's Ariana Gardizy, Conestoga's Dominique Shultz, Chambersburg's Abby Yourkavtich, Northern's Marlee Starliper, and Pennsbury's Lizzy Kirk make up a loaded group that could propel the field to some top five state times.

Mikaela Vlasic (North Penn) sits at PA#5 and the top seed in the 800 meters on Saturday. Vlasic has been strong all season, but Abington's Jawork, Hatboro's Miranda Royds, Penncrest's Tara Higgins, Penn Wood's Kyra Carroll, Fleetwood's Sarah Crissman, Friends' Central's Emily Burd, and Owen J. Roberts' Ally Brunton make for a very deep field, with a number of girls capable of going sub-2:20.

In the 3000 meters, there are a number of talented entries. Yourkavtich will return from the mile earlier. Lansdale's Catholic's Kayla Connelly, CB West's Megan Kolbe, Stroudsburg's Michelle Joyce, North Penn's Olivia Dyer, Eastern York's Maddie McLain, Coatesville's Brooke Hutton, and more make up what should be a very interesting 15-lapper.
