PCL Indoor Championships

More high school indoor track and field action comes to Lehigh on Sunday, closing out a busy weekend for the facility. The teams of the Philadelphia Catholic League will battle it out for the coveted PCL crown. The O'Hara girls and the LaSalle boys will be looking to defend their league titles from last year. Here's our preview of the action:

GIRLS

In the 60 meters, Neumann Goretti's Eliza Brooks will battle Bonner & Prendie's Jewel Ford and West Catholic's Dasia Wilson. Ford and Wilson will return for what should be an exciting 200 meters, which also includes Neumann Goretti's Sydni Townsend and Mykala Perry. Townsend and Perry will be the ones to watch in the 400 meters earlier along with Wilson and O'Hara's Christine Mancini.

In the 60-meter hurdles, reigning PCL indoor champ Alaina Johnson of Bonner & Prendie will be favored to defend her title.

O'Hara's Olivia Arizin is the one to watch in the 800 meters. The senior is PA#1 and US#2 in the event. Christine Mancini and her sister Elizabeth Mancini are also in the field. Elizabeth and Eleanor Mancini are the top seeds in the mile. That pair is also favored in the 3000 meters.

Neumann Goretti's Janese Lynch will look for a big effort in the shot put. Lynch sits at PA#2 behind Hickory's Tori McKinley. McKinley is throwing in Ohio on Sunday in what will be an interesting cross-state matchup to watch. Watch for PA#12 Blair Knuckle of Bishop McDevitt in the high jump. Knuckle is also entered in the long jump, along with NG's Brooks.

BOYS

The 60 meters should be a hotly contested event. The top seed is LaSalle's Octavious Carter, but St. Joe's Prep's D'Andre Swift will be one to watch. Bishop McDevitt's Tyler Byrd and Bonner & Prendie's Ethan Cook are also in that race in what will be a really close final. Cook and Swift will return later for the 200 meters in what should be another close race with O'Hara's Obinna Iherjirka.

The 60-meter hurdles is also a race to watch for. St. Joe's Prep's Miles Green and West Catholic's Dajone Averett are a pair of hurdlers who will be looking for states glory in a few weeks and this will be a good precursor. Green is also in the 400 meters in a deep field that includes LaSalle's Peter Nelson, Neumann Goretti's Kamil Jihad, and St. Joe's Prep's Robert Dupell.

The distance events will be very interesting. In the mile, LaSalle's Evan Addison, who enters the weekend at PA#3, will be the one to watch, but O'Hara's Ryan James should give him a good run. So will his O'Hara teammates Gavin Inglis and Patrick James. LaSalle's Brendan Price. But the 800 will be good, too. NG's Jihad will be the one to beat, but Bonner & Prendie's Dave Whitfield and SJP's Dupell will make this a good one. Inglis, Ryan James, and Patrick James are also entered in the 3000 meters with LaSalle's Stephen Paul and Bonner & Prendie's Anthony Harper.

The long jump will be a good battle between PA#2 Isaiah Ritchie of St. Joe's Prep, LaSalle's Alex Sislo, and West Catholic's Averett. Sislo is the top seed in the high jump along with teammate Jonathon Squadrito, while Ritchie and B&P's Cook are the ones to watch for in the triple jump. LaSalle's Noah Walker is the top seed in the shot put.
