Girls' Triple Jump Preview
We're expecting a great duel in the triple jump as the top three in the state has separated themselves by a large margin.
Perkiomen Valley's Christina Warren became the first and only jumper this season to get past 40 feet after a big effort at Ocean Breeze where she jumped 40-4. She's currently 11th in the US. She was fifth in the event last year, and she'll try to improve upon that and possibly bring home a state crown.
Both Warren and Upper Dublin's Madison Langley-Walker will be competing in the long jump and 60 hurdles prior to the triple. Both will look to summon the energy for a big effort in the second half of the meet. Langley-Walker was a narrow runner-up last year to State College's Nika Karpenko at states. Langley-Walker will be looking to hit 40 feet on Saturday and it'll be tough to beat her if she does.
The wild card looks to be Canon McMilan's Chyna Beck. The senior popped off a huge two and half foot PR at Tri-States this past weekend. She jumped 39-6 to move up to PA#2. If she can duplicate that effort, Beck could be one of the day's biggest surprise winners.
After that, there's a drop-off as far as season bests, but some of these compeititors have the talent to possibly mix it up with the favorites. Downingtown East's Evelyn Berecz will be one to keep an eye on in this field. Berecz captured the AAA outdoor title in the event this past spring. She's competed limitedly this winter, but if healthy, Berecz (currently PA#9) can make it interesting.
Coatesville's Caroline Billone is PA#4 after a big PR at the New Balance Games. She will look for a repeat performance on Saturday. Milton Hershey's Rebecca Tarnve also had a big PR; hers coming at the Private/Independent Schools Championship in Maryland. There, she jumped a PA#5 37-4.25.
Council Rock South's Emily Yemm, Hempfield Area's Gabby Holmberg, and Methacton's Rainah Dunham are among the returners from last year's state meet, aiming for a spot on the podium.
