Hempfield Black Knight Invitational - Meet Recap

GIRLS' RECAP

Jane Livingston of Conestoga Valley dominated the hurdles at Hempfield this weekend. Her times rank her top 5 in the state in both the 110m and 300m hurdles.  Starting off the day she ran a 14.64 in the 100m hurdles. Livingston told PennTrackXC her goal was mid 46s for the 300m hurdles later in the day, but then ended up running 45.55 for the win.

Two ladies in the jumps turned in top performances on Saturday. Stephanie Laudien of Hempfield jumped 37-2.25 for the win the triple jump finals ranking her in the top five in the state. Sarah Stackhouse of Penn Manor took the win the in long jump with a jump of 17' 11" and has her eye on jumping 18 ft. in the near future. Sarah also took 2nd in the triple jump.

Warwick's Lily Palacio-Lewis---just a freshman--won the 100 meters in a PA#3 of 12.32, which all of a sudden puts her name on the radar in not just District 3, but the entire state. Warwick also picked up the win in the 4x100 in 49.95.

Coatesville's Porsha Miles was strong in the 200 meters, winning in 25.72. Miles was also a part of Coatesville's winning 4x400 meter relay, which went 4:05.69.

On the track, Alison Willingmyre had her first race this outdoor season in the 3200m and had a solid race against Coatesville's Brooke Hutton. Willingmyre took the win at 11:05.14, but Hutton followed close with a 11:12.58. Both performances are currently ranked top 10 in the state. Willingmyre's teammate Reagan Underwood won the 1600 meters in 5:17.84.

In the discus, Jessica Slagus of North Pocono threw a at top 10 performance in the state this weekend with a throw of 130 ft. 7 in. In the javelin, Kristen Herr threw 139 ft. 6 in. for the win which currently ranks 7th in the state. JP McCaskey's Aliyah Striver threw 39-10.25 to win the shot put.

Carena Nottoli of Hempfield jumped 11' 6" in the pole vault for the win. Cedar Crest's Ariel Jones edged out Warwick's Trinity Bitting-Ellis in the high jump. Both cleared 5-2.


BOYS' RECAP

The crowd erupted with cheers as two Coatesville runners, Terrance Laird and Erik Kirk, took 1-2 in the 100m dash. Laird ran a 10.51, which currently ranks him number one in the state. Not far behind, Kirk posted a time of 10.91. Laird assures that he and his teammate have both been working hard in practice and their performances both reflect that.

Also on the track, J.P McCaskey's Nathan Henderson dominated the 1600 meters with a 4:17.82, a time that now ranks third in the state. Jesse Cruise of Cedar Crest also had a nice race with a 4:29.19. In the 4x800 meter relay, Ephrata took the win in a time of 8:20.34.


The most competitive races of the day were in the 110m and 300m Hurdles where Taraje Whitfield of Penn Manor and Anayah Bermudez of Conestoga Valley both pushed each other to run incredible times. In the 110m Hurdles, Whitfield edged out Bermudez running 14.27. Both runners rank 2nd and 3rd in the state with their performances. Coatesville Jared Elters was not far behind in the 110's running a 14.79.

Later in the day, Whitfield and Bermudez faced off again, turning in additional top ranking performances in the 300m Hurdles. Whitfield got the win in 39.70, followed closely by Bermudez in 39.84 seconds. The pair continued to push each other even in the 4x400m relay when they happened to be the same leg.

Conestoga Valley's Jose Barbon long the long jump with a leap of 22-0.

North Pocono's Matt Slagus won both the shot put and discus, with a pair of nice throws. Slagus threw 54-6.5 in the shot and then 170-0.

Although throwing into a nasty headwind, Josh Eidemiller of Lampeter Strasburg turned in a win with a throw of 175-3.
