ESU Black & Red Invitational - Meet Preview

BOYS' PREVIEW

In the high jump this weekend at East Stroudsburg, look for a top performance from Isaiah Wiggins of Pocono Mountain West. He jumped 6 ft. 7 in. last week, currently ranking him #4 in the state. Nick Walter of Stroudsburg will also be one to watch. Wiggins will also compete in triple jump where he will be challenged by Stroudsburg's Shaquille Mitchell, the current PA#2. Mitchell is just a half inch behind current state leader, Shamar Jenkins of Souderton.

In the pole vault, watch for Ryan Fox of Nazareth Area. Last year Fox did well at the District level, but his jump of 13 ft. 6 inches last week ranks him among some of the top vaulters in the state.

In the sprints, look for a good battle in the 100m dash between Julian Liaci of Nazareth Area and Samuel Darrell of Pope John XXII (NJ). Liaci will come back in the 200m, but will face competition from New Jersey's Justes Nance, the top seed.

In javelin, watch for Marc Minichello of Wyoming Area. Currently ranked #2 in the state, Minichello has thrown 194 ft. 5in this season. Does he have 4 more feet to become the top ranked javelin thrower in state? Jared Mowery of Danville will also be one to watch in this event.

The 3200m will be dominated by several New Jersey runners with Chris Romero of Voorhees as the top seed going into the weekend. In the 1600m, Ray Sellaro of North Hunterdon HS (NJ) will be one to watch. Last year he ran 4:15.57. Close behind him will be Evan Minor of Voorhees (NJ), who ran 4:20 this indoor season.

GIRLS' PREVIEW

In pole vault, be sure to watch Abby Norwillo of Pittston Area. She jumped 12 ft. even last week which currently ranks her as one of the top 5 vaulters in the state. Will she go 12 ft. 6 in. this weekend to tie with the number one vault in the state ?

Stroudsburg's  Ayanna Burrell will be hitting the runways this weekend.District 11 champ and 5th at states in the triple jump last year, Burrell will look to climb the state rankings in triple on Saturday.  In long jump, Burrell will face off with Bridget and Maddie McNally from Pope John XXII of New Jersey. Calista Marzolino of Abington Heights won the high jump last year at this meet and is coming back this weekend as the top seed.

In the sprints, watch for Juanita Wiggins of Pocono Mountain West. She is the number one seed entered in the 100m dash on Saturday, but will be challenged by Abigail Radcliffe of Nazareth and Allyson Derry of Abington Heights. Both Wiggins and Radcliffe will face off again in the 200m later in the day.

A great matchup to watch on Saturday will be between Katie Dammer of Abington Heights and Lauren Wagner of Voorhees (NJ) in the 1600m.  Wagner will not be fresh, as she is entered as the top seed in 3200m earlier that morning. Both girls have gone under 5 minutes in the 1600m. Who will take the win this weekend?

Dammer will come back to run the 800m where she will face some competition from Allana Powlette of Stroudsburg and Alysse Danyi of Nazareth.
