AAA Boys' 800m Preview
Bishop Shanahan's Josh Hoey opted for the 800 meters over the 1600 meters at the District 1 Championships and the junior will look to take home an outdoor state title in the two-lapper. He out-dueled Noah Affolder for the indoor state championship and Hoey looked strong at Coatesville, so he'll be favored to take the win at Ship.
Quakertown's Hudson Delisle came from off the radar to place third from a slow heat at indoor states. He's not under the radar now, though, as he comes in as the two-seed. He battled hard with Hoey at districts and he'll look to pull of some more state meet magic this weekend. Radnor's Peter Cooke and William Tennent's Christian Craig are some other District 1 guys coming off big PRs last week.
Penn Trafford's Nick Wagner took the win at WPIALs, clocking a nice 1:53.69. He was fourth at indoor states and will be looking to improve upon that finish over the weekend. Penn Hills' Isaiah Bailey went 1:54.05 to take second to Wagner at WPIALs. At District 10, Cathedral Prep's Derek Jones asserted himself as a serious threat to the state. He ran 1:54.04 to win in Ohio and he'll come back to PA with some high hopes.
State College's Nick Feffer is the top returner from last year's AAA 800 meter final. He was fourth a year ago after a 4x800 leg. He'll be doing the same double this year, but he's proven that he can execute it well. Mifflin County's Seth Phillips is in the field after taking second to Feffer at District 6. From District 3, look for Eastern York's Nathan Lopez and Lebanon's Derin Klick, who went 2-3 at their district meet. Klick enters the weekend as PA-AAA#9.
