AA Boys' Shot Put Preview
At any other time, Evan Blaire of Hickory could be the toast of the throws in Pennsylvania, but he has been throwing shot and discus - and throwing well - in the shadows of the best the state has ever seen.
The Hornet senior and Auburn signee blasted out a PR at the District 10 meet in Ohio with a heave of 66 feet, 10.5 inches. He was fifth with the 12-pounder as a sophomore but could not get a mark last year so Blaire will be out to make amends for 2016.
Tom Bojalad of Saint Marys Area finished fourth last year in AAA and has the best chance of getting close to the Hickory standout. His outdoor PR of 58-11.5 is just 2 inches shy of his indoor best from this winter and he is fifth best in PA.
Jacob Gieringer of Oley Valley was third a year ago and is fourth this year in AA with a best of 54-11.5. Tyler Bishop, Blaire's teammate at Hickory, was sixth a year ago and has improved to 54-10 on the year.
The final returning medalist from 2016 is WPIAL champ Lance Fisher of Riverside out of the WPIAL. He is No. 3 on the year in AA with a best of 55.7.
