AAA Boys' Triple Jump Preview
The triple jumpers went off in the hot weather at the state meet last spring, leaping season bests and PRs all over the place. It won't be as hot this season, but you can expect another close battle for the AAA title.
Souderton's Shamar Jenkins comes in as a the top seed after a jump of 48-11.25, which was a mere quarter inch off his season best. Jenkins has been on fire this spring, coming off an indoor states win. He's been consistent, too, and that's a huge factor coming into the weekend.
Milton Hershey's Treyvon Ferguson is jumping well right now and will be gunning for the win. Ferguson leapt 48-7 to win the District 3 title. he was sixth at this meet last season. District 1 has some talent after Jenkins, with the likes of Wissahickon's Ahmir Johnson, Upper Dublin's Brian Kaufmann, and Strath Haven's Dayo Abeeb.
Pocono Mountain West's Isaiah Wiggins is the top returner from states last year, where he took fourth. He was third in District 11, but will look to be a factor at Ship. Pleasant Valley's Michael Mitchell won the D11 crown last week with a PR of 47-2. Can he duplicate that at states? Stroudsburg's Shaquille Mitchell will be in the hunt for gold. He comes in with a season best of 48-3.75.
Carlisle's Deshawn Millington is one looking for a storybook ending to his career. Millington won the state title in the triple as a freshman and took second as a sophomore, but didn't compete in track last season. Can the basketball standout bookend his career with a state title this weekend?
