PIAA States Preview: Girls' Jumps

AA Girls' Long Jump Preview

As a freshman, Breana Gambrell of Athens Area won her first state title with an impressive jump over 18 feet. Gambrell has not only continued to win the state championship since then, she has added almost 2 feet to her personal best jump. She will be one to watch elsewhere, but she is the heavy favorite to win the AA long jump. Gambrell jumped 20-8.5, a non-wind-aided state record, and comes in as PA#1 and US#6. Whatever you are spectating this weekend, be sure to catch this superstar jumper hit the sand.

A formidable and familiar challenger will be Annville-Cleona's Reagan Hess. Like Gambrell, Hess is also seeded well in some sprinting events this weekend. However, she jumped 19-1.5 this season and will look to end her senior season with a bang.

Another lady to watch is Brenna Cavanaugh of Bentworth. She popped a 19 ft. 7.25 inch jump to win indoor states last winter, even beating Gambrell. This spring, she has jumped 18-9, ranking her #3 in AA. Will Cavanaugh land another big jump at states this weekend?

Also posting top jumps will be Zoe Roush of Forest Hills and Jillian Olewine of Northern Lehigh.
