Enos Yeager Invitational - Meet Recap

Some District 3 teams gathered Friday evening at Chambersburg to race a 2.3 mile hilly course. There is no team score for the meet, but it is a nice event for athletes to test their fitness early in the season.

The Carlisle boys team lost the Affolder brothers and some talented seniors. However, The Herd demonstrated they are still a strong team by placing their entire top seven in the top 20 on Friday. Jack Wisner led the way, winning the boys' race with his best time on the course, 12:24. Not far behind Wisner was his teammate Casey Padgett, who put on a strong kick to take second.

Gettysburg Area boys also had their season debut on Friday. The team was led by two seniors, Luke Milhimes and Bradley Filler who finished within a second of one another, placing fourth and fifth overall.

On the girls side, Northern looked strong, having both depth and top talent. The team is one of the top AA teams to watch at both the district and state level. The polar bears were led by talented sophomore Marlee Starliper who blew the field away winning the meet in a new course record. Her time of 13:41 beat the old course record by over 40 seconds.

Due to other commitments, other noteable top runners like Greencastle Antrim's Taryn Parks and Chambersburg's Abby Yourkavitch were both missing from action on Friday.

However, even without their number one runner, Chambersburg girls displayed their strength in numbers. On Friday, many of the Lady Trojans raced and finished together. The top five girls took places 3, 5, 6, 7,and 11 at the meet. Leading the Chambersburg ladies was freshman Keira Whitehead who took third overall. The Chambersburg girls were second as a team at districts last year and certainly look strong enough to contend for the team title in 2017.

Carlisle lead runner Meg Lebo took second overall to start off her senior season.
