Starliper Heats Up At Big Spring

Girls' AAA Race - Recap

The large-school girls' race looked to be wide open and it was made even more interesting by the injection of defending PIAA A champs St. Joseph's Catholic and Sera Mazza---coach Jayson Jackson bumped his girls up to get them some extra experience after racing many of their Class A rivals last week.

In the early going Mazza, Cocalico's Jamie Zamrin, Manheim Township's Samantha Side and Dallastown's Emily Schuler ran together as a pack but when the runners re-emerged on the backside of kill hill it was Schuler all alone. The sophomore cruised home from there and won easily in 18:40; Zamrin held on for second in 19:19 while Side and Mazza followed in second and third.

Manheim Township's girls looked plenty worthy of their PA#4 ranking, dominating the field with just 52 points. Dallastown was second with 102 while St. Joseph's made for a very intriguing third-place team as small fish in the big pond with 130.

Mazza's 19:35 matched up fairly well with DiFalco in the girls' small school race, and it looks like the rivalry will renew itself again as we head towards the postseason.
