Starliper Heats Up At Big Spring

Boys' AAA Race - Recap

With the departure of Noah and Sam Affolder, Nathan Henderson and Zach Lefever---who went 1-4 at the PIAA 3A meet last fall----there was something of a power vacuum left at the top of District 3. In a wide-open race it was Cocalico's Evan Kreider who seized the opportunity and staked his claim to be the new face of District 3 with the day's fastest time at 16:11. The junior said he was bothered by the heat but not intimidated, noting that everyone had to run in the same conditions.

Wilson's Jake Underwood ran a very nice 16:25 to take second while Manheim Township's Evan Dorenkamp was third; in fact, the Lancaster-Lebanon league netted over half of the race's top 20 finishers, suggesting that the center of power in District 3 may have shifted east despite the departures of Henderson and Lefever.

Led by Christian Groff's fifth-place finish, Terry Newman's Hempfield squad returned to its winning ways on Saturday, scoring 100 points to take down Manheim Township. Lower Dauphin, paced by up-and-comer Mark Walsh, was third.
