Big Weekend In NY & VA: New Balance Games & VA Showcase Recap

The VA Showcase - Meet Recap

GIRLS' RECAP

Thelma Davies just keeps getting better. The Girard College junior dropped a 6.77 in the prelims, the fastest F.A.T. time ever recorded in state history (Angel Doyle of Central Dauphin East ran a 6.5 hand-time in 1975). Davies returned on Saturday for the finals where she won in 6.86. Stayed tuned for more this season from Davies, who will have plenty more chances to keep dropping time.

It was a big weekend for the girls from Friends' Central. On Friday, the DMR team ran 12:15.30. That's a new PA#1 and US#5 for a squad that should make some serious noise in the event come states season.

FCS's Gabrielle Wilkinson came back on Saturday for the 1,000 meters, where she won in time of 2:50.35, one of the fastest times in state history. It's also a US#1 by over three seconds. Inara Shell of Friends' Central also had a strong weekend, taking third in the triple jump (36-6) and fourth in the long jump (17-6)

Taryn Parks of Greencastle-Antrim ran a very strong race in the invitational mile. Parks went 5:00.55, a new PA#4, for the win. Eastern York's Maddie McLain also ran well in a very fast 5,000 meters. Katelyn Tuohy won in a new national record of 15:37, but McLain took third in 18:01.12.

Perkiomen Valley's Christina Warren kept her solid season going. Warren took sixth in the 55 meter hurdles in 8.08. She also claimed the win in the triple jump with a leap of 39-5.5, her fifth win and fifth time over 39 feet in the TJ this season.

BOYS' RECAP

The boys of Bishop Shanahan turned in a big weekend in Virginia. On Friday night, the DMR team ran a PA#2 time of 10:24.64 to finish third in a loaded relay race.

On Saturday, Josh Hoey returned to make some Pennsylvania state history. Hoey broke the state record to win the 1K in 2:24.64, outlasting McDonogh (MD) School's Dalton Hengst. In the 800 meters, Jonah Hoey earned the win in a time of 1:56.11, which puts the sophomore at PA#2. Logan Yoquinto took fourth in the 800, running a PA#6 time of 1:57.51.

Dock Mennonite's Austin Kratz turned in a big effort in the 300 meters. Kratz improved upon his own PR and PA#1, running 33.77 for fourth place in a race that saw two boys break the previous national record and the that former record holder finishing third in the race.

Germantown Academy's Kyle Garland put down yet another strong meet. Garland won the 55 meter hurdles as well as the high jump. In the hurdles, Garland ran 7.38, just off his own PA#1. In the high jump, Garland cleared 6-10 for the win.

Imhotep's Kristian Marche took second in the 55 meter final. The senior entered the meet at PA#1 already and he was just off that time, running 6.39, a sign of solid consistency for Marche.
