Girls' 200 Meters Preview
Thelma Davies' prowess in the 60 meters has been well-documented. As a freshman, she won the state title in the event and went on to set the state record. The next year, she won the 60 again and added her first indoor 200 meter title. She enters Sunday looking to complete that double again, and while her 60 times have been on point, her 200 meters is really coming around this winter.
Davies dropped a PR of 23.89 at the Hispanic Games in the event, showing she's ready to pull out something very special this time around at states. Two years ago, freshman Kouri Peace shocked everyone and dropped a 23.74 at the indoor state meet (Peace is unfortunately not entered this season as she battles injuries), and his year Davies has the potential to take that time down.
Saucon Valley's Talitha Diggs is the second seed and in the midst of a big winter. Diggs went 24.62 at the Varsity Classic, a PR in the event. She was third last season as a freshman, and now as a sophomore with more experience under her belt, look for Diggs to be a serious factor in this race. Norristown's Jayana Webb has only contested one open event this season (the 200 meters, where she took second to Diggs in a PA#4 time), but she's entered for Sunday. Webb was fifth in the 200 meters at indoor states last season, when she ran a PR of 24.76 and she'll look for another strong performance this season.
Neumann Goretti's Sydni Townsend was seventh last season. She'll aim for a strong performance. Coatesville's Porsha Miles, Conestoga's Grace Lanouette, and Norristown's Jonae Cook are among the other contenders. In this field, we could see any number of girls, particularly in the 200 where lane assignments are very crucial.
