Team Breakdown: PIAA District 8 Girls & Boys

D8-AAA Boys - Team Breakdown

Like the girls, Taylor Allderdice will face a more difficult task if it wants to bring home another District 8 title and trip to Hershey. McDowell and Cathedral Prep, which competed in District 10 last season, will compete with District 8 this season. Just one state qualifying spot is up for grabs.

In 2017, Allderdice swept the Pittsburgh City League, taking the first seven spots and scoring just 15 points. Four varsity boys are back, but the squad loses top runners Tavonne Davis and Ethan Hermann. Isaiah Freeman, Eli Anish, and Eric Rohrer will look to step into that leader's role this fall.

Last year, McDowell won the District 10 Class AAA title, scoring just 20 points. The team loses its top three from districts last year and brings back three varsity runners from last year's team. Colton Martin will be called on to try and lead McDowell back to Hershey.

Cathedral Prep may be the team the beat in District 8 this season. Prep was second in District 10 last season and qualified four boys to the state meet. Freshman Kody Klein was the team's top runner at districts and states. Prep brings back some good talent this year and could be looking at a full team  bid to the state meet.

Erie and Carrick will look for some improvements to make a run at a high finish come October. Allderdice has been the class of D8 for some time now, but this fall, the Dragons will get their toughest challenge yet. Expect a close race for the lone spot in the state meet.
