Philadelphia, PA - The opening day for the 2023 Penn Relays Presented by Toyota is off to a HOT start. Here is a recap of all of the action from day 1.

Boys 4x800m Heats: 

Penncrest kicked the action off today for PA with 7:57.83. That's a new PA #3 and was good for third in their heat. Cumberland Valley was one hundredth of a second behind Penncrest running 7:57.84. Souderton rounded out the sub 8 minute performances running 7:59.68.

Some other notable performances: Coatesville (8:03.61.), Central Bucks West (8:04.43), and Ridley (8:05.21).

Qualifying for Finals: Penncrest (7:57.83) and Cumberland Valley (7:57.84)

Boys 4x100m: Roman Catholic ran the fastest time of the day for PA with 42.75. Downingtown West sprinted to 42.98. Spring-Ford rounds at the top three times with 43.07.

Boys Shot Put: Brady Mider (Berks Catholic) was the lone finalist for PA in the shot put. He bettered his PA #1 throw with 58-11.5. That's good for a fourth place finish. Gian Greggo (Pen Argyl) took eleventh place with 52-9.25. Kyree Butler (Upper Dublin) finishes out PA's top competitors with his throw of 51-6.25.

Boys Triple Jump: Jared Hess (Pennridge) jumped his way to a sixth place finish with 44-9.5. Jordan Sowell (Cheltenham) also represented PA and took ninth with 44-6.25. 

Boys Pole Vault: The PA pole vaulters go 3rd, 4th, 6th, 6th, and 9th in the championship section. Nathan Lutz (Altoona) seized the day with his bronze medal vault of 15-2.25. Breckin Swope (East Pennsboro) vaulted 14-8 to take 4th by attempts. Drake Risser (Lower Dauphin) and Mason Bucks (Palmyra) tied for 6th, both clearing 14-8. Solomon Glavach (Wilmington) jumped 14-8 and placed 9th after attempts.


Boys Javelin: The Javelin throwers of PA dominated the podium. Bronson Krainak (Danville) took second place with a throw of 197-10. Third place went to Joe Reed (Riverside) after he threw 194-5. Drew Mruk (Wyoming Area) followed close behind throwing 194-4 for fourth place. Thomas Flud (Upper Perkiomen) came in fifth place with a throw of 194-3. To finish off the top 8 finishes, Lincoln Huber (Central Columbia) threw 173-10. 

Boys 4x400m: Indoor PTFCA 400m champion Tyler Abraham, propelled Abington to the top time of the day for PA running 3:18.44. That was #10 overall for the day. The boys of Central Bucks West shot themselves up the state rankings to #3 overall after running 3:20.45. Roman Catholic won their heat by way of 3:22.39 just barely running a faster time than Cheltenham who finished in 3:22.42. Episcopal academy won their heat with the help of a 48.40 anchor from freshman Abaas Hunter, finishing in 3:22.85.
