October 8, 9 - I kept trying to drop her, but she just wouldn\'t go!

The Suisse National Team (Josi is top row, 4th from right)

Saturday– October 8 2005
Training: 20 min morning jog, 20 min evening jog with striders
Where: AM-back at home in Steffisburg, PM-in Charmes, France
Quotes: "I hope this isn't an actual school." In general some of us girls. We stayed at some boarding school because they had vacation and the beds were small and super creaky. Some of the girls took the mattresses off the bed and then put them on the floor because it was too soft for them. Oh man, it was a funny experience!!! But yeah, sure enough, it WAS used as an actual school and people actually have to sleep on these beds for when they are in school!!!! I will put some pictures up as soon as I have my usb cable to my camera! Hahahaha But for now here is one from the SLV website.

We got our official SUISSE (Switzerland) gear today. We were decked out in Adidas red, white and black warm ups. Again, will put pictures up asap. I was definitely proud to be wearing SUISSE gear!!! (see, now THAT is fate…N.C. State red and white and Switzerland red and white…it was meant to be).

Sunday– October 9 2005 RACE DAY!!!!
Race: 10k Road race, first 5k super hilly, the last part flatter with a nice "stinger" hill.
Where: Charmes, France
Quotes: "We beat the French so don't think you have to pay for your own ice cream." FritzBoss bascially telling us to enjoy ourselves when we went out to eat after our race.

"Well, at least we have some stories to tell now." -Me about our interesting experience at this school we stayed at.

WE BEAT THE FRENCH.

On the morning of our race day, we definitely had some interesting breakfast (right gang?) It is a long story. But basically we were to be in the cafeteria at 6am…but when we got down to the cafeteria, all that was there was some boxes of cereal and some yogurt and two bags of oranges!!! I cannot do dairy before a meet so basically I was chasing dry cereal with water, while telling the girls all I wanted was some bread and butter. Well, I ate as much dry cereal as I could and then I went back to bed. After about a half hour of laying down, I feel a tap on my shoulder and it was Sonya (she ran the half marathon)…and what did she have in her hand? Bread and butter!!!! Thanks Sonya!!!! She said that a few minutes after I left, people came piling in with bread and all we needed for breakfast. I just ate my bread and butter and then went back to sleep for a while because I was tired! (Some French dudes decided they would hang out in our room, yes our GIRLS room, talking to the French girls (we were in the same room) until 2am, even though I literally told them to "SHUT UP. BON NUIT. (good night)" Yeah…well, it stayed quiet for a while, but then started up again. Luckily I brough some ear plugs, so I got SOME sleep.

Anyway, so racing….Now all the people that came to the race aren't necessarily all we have because there were some girls and guys that just had their break off of running and then there are those who weren't able to come etc… This meet worked similar to an invite and Fritz called around and asked which people wanted to come and run in the Switzerland vs. France (SUI vs. FRA) meet. Two of the girls I train with for example (Livia Burri and Astrid Leutert) didn't race. Livia had just been on vacation and had her running break and Astrid has only now been given the right medicine for her asthma and breathing problem.

We had some awesome performances today!!! Now the Half marathon (21.1k) course was SUPER hilly, worse than the 10k course so it is hard to judge performances based on time. There were 1,200 participants today and boy was that starting line CROWDED!!!

Here are the results! These are just results from within our team. It was a pretty young crowd! Congratulations team SUISSE!!!!!!!!!
