Friday December 30, 2005
Training: 0 morning, 6 times 1,000m 2 mins recovery in the pm on the indoor track in Magglingen with Astrid of course
20 mins warm up, 18 warm down
Day Mileage: about 9.5 miles
WEEK Mileage accumulated: 55.5 (c.a. 89km)
Where: Magglingen
WEATHER: Too hot inside the "halle," in the indoor stadium

Training Details: Recap: One week off, one week of just mileage, so 2 weeks without any workouts. Our first one being today since our time off…. It was too snowy to try to do some kind of workout outside unless we wanted to break our hips.
6 times 1,000 (The track is 187 meters, banked). So 6 times about 5.5 rounds
Pace: Tempo pace between 3:25 and 3:30…STARTING at 3:30 of course and then coming down
Recovery: 2 mins rec. between each 1,000 jogging or walking, water

After our workout and cool down, Astrid and I ran out around in the snow to make our feet and legs feel a little better….OUCH, and OOHHH COOOLLLLDDD. Afterwards, we had some sort of surprise from FritzBoss. All he told us was to dress warm. In ended up we went to Meiringen for this really cool fest/parade. It was a really special thing, and boy was it out there. And up there too, as in, in the alps. It's a really cute little Swiss Alp town! We ate traditional baked cheese on bread (so yummy, IF you like stinky Swiss cheese, which I do!My roommates from apt 203 can attest to that! Hah!), while watching the parade. It is this fest where the parade lasts from the day after Christmas until New Year's Day!!! They ring these huge cow bells and play drums in this really slow and somber beat. Someone told me that it dates back really far and it started to scare the ghosts out of the town for the new year! We got home really late, so we decided to sleep in the next morning and stay at home for New Year's! (I know, unheard of, right, but we are serious athletes here, have to make some sacrifices).

Saturday December 31, 2005
Training: 80 mins am, 40 mins. pm…yes, 2 hours of straight running today
Day Mileage: about 15 miles, 24 km
WEEK Mileage accumulated: about 70.5, ca. 113.5 km
Where: Uttigen
WEATHER: Cold! As usual. Ran on streets because the trails were full of snow.

Training Details: Astrid and I felt tired today after our run so we went to take a nap before our second run. Stayed in for New Year's! Training first! There is a time for partying, the time isn't right now, after a 70 mile week (in 6 days).

Sunday January 1, 2006
Training: OFF
Day Mileage: AMEN
WEEK Mileage accumulated: 70.5 MILES

Training Details: Oh man, I really fully enjoy my days off!!!! We have three workouts next week, which is why we get today off!

A LOT MORE VOLUME, LESS INTENSE…AT THE MOMENT
The main difference for me right now between college and running Switzerland is the AMOUNT of running, not necessarily the intensity. I feel like a lot of the workouts in college were a lot more intense, but again, the seasons were set up differently so we had to do intense stuff at different times of the year. Astrid told me that intensity is yet to come because we don't want to peak right now…of course! (hah, of course Asi!). I know she is right because we are still in our cross country season until March! This is why I don't feel as "fit" as I usually do! Again, it is "feel." And any time I don't think I feel fit, I usually surprise myself and am actually in better shape than I really think I am. I know I have time, but I don't want to somehow take it "easier" because of that fact! I am working hard as if I didn't have time, but leave my mind at ease, knowing that I DO have time. I am not sure if that makes sense to any of you, but I mean that I don't want to just go through the motions without some sort of lackadaisical mindset of "I have all the time in the world," but to train hard knowing the clock is ticking, but not to over train due to worry… BALANCE. Is what I mean. BALANCE. Train hard, but not train "stupid."
Intensity on the way……AFTER the foundation is laid!!! And I think I am laying a damn good foundation.....
