PA Recap Day 3: Zaza & Stones go 3-5 in 400H - Tim Moses narrowly 2nd in PV - Ibn Short 2nd in HJ
 

Wellington Zaza of Garnet Valley (3rd in 52.79) and Jay Stones of Central York (5th in 53.48) gave PA two top five finishes in the 400 meter hurdles. Todd Townsend of Newmann Goretti ran 54.56 to finish 7th. Norristown ran 42.43 to finish 4th in the large school 4x100 meter relay just ahead of 5th place Coatesville (42.67). Cheltenham ran 42.25 to finish 6th in the small school final.
 

Tim Moses of Palmyra finished 2nd in the pole vault with a clearance of 15-9 for the 2nd week in a row.
 

 
Ibn Short of Milton Hershey finished 2nd in the high jump with a state leading clearance of 6-10.25.
 
In the 4x800 meter relay Championship of America, PA finished 4th and 5th with Cumberland Valley running 7:48.85 and state leaders Bensalem running 7:49.54.

In the 4x400 meter relay, Wissahickon came out of Franklin Field with the best time of the day from all of the PA sqauds! Wissahickon finished 12th out of 537 teams with a state leading time of 3:16.76. Pennridge was 14th in 3:17.55, Wilson (3) was 16th in 3:18.19, Bensalem ran 3:18.54 for 17th and Pennsbury rounded out the top five in the morning heats with a time of 3:20.46 to finish 26th.
 
In the Philadelphia Area final, Bensalem came away as the winners, holding off Pennridge for the 2nd time this season 3:18.52 to 3:18.85.
 


The girls contested a couple of local area events. Swenson won the Tri-State 4x100 meter relay in a state leading 46.97. Pennridge girls finished 3rd in the same race with a time of 47.68. Swenson also won the Philadelphia Area final in a runaway 3:46.13.

 
 
 
 
 
Friday

PA Recap Day 2: PA comes away with three wins to boost total COA take to five.
 
Lasalle came away as the winners of the distance medley relay Championship of America race, with Tom Coyle beating out a close pack to win the race for his team in 10:04.93. Cardinal O'Hara finished 4th in 10:06.04 while West Chester Henderson finished 8th in 10:13.22.
 
In the boys 3000 meter run, Max Norris of Harriton continued his incredible season with a Penn Relays championship with a time of 8:25.62 to hold off Stephen Shine (NY) by 1/4 of a second! Brendan Shearn of North Schuylkill (7th in 8:27.84) and Ross Wilson of Council Rock North (8th in 8:29.71) also earned top ten finishes in the race.
 
The 3rd winner of the day came in the javelin with a 205-11 mark from champion Cole Proffitt of Manheim Central. Mitch Obenrader of North Clarion finished 3rd with a throw of 200-7. Jhett Janis of Cocalico (6th in 194-11) and Tyler Hope of Tamaqua (8th in 189-10) earned top ten finishes for PA.

In other boys action, Jason Coon of Schuylkill Valley finished 4th in the shot put with a throw of 59-7.50. State leader Jon Yohman of Wilmington threw 58-6.50 to finish 7th. In the discus, Coon's teammate Evan Arnott finished 6th with a throw of 179-11 with Bryan Pearson of Bangor Area finishing right behind him in 157-7. Curt Jewett of Northeast Bradford finished 8th in the mile run in 4:16.07.
 
In the relays, Norristown had the top PA performance in the 4x100 meter relay, finishing 18th out of 524 teams with a time of 42.58 to lead the state list. Previous state leaders Cheltenham had the 20th fastest time in 42.61. Coatesville ran 42.78 to finish 25th, Neshaniny ran 42.92 to finish 30th and Father Judge rounded out the PA top five with a 35th place finish of 43.00. In the 4x800 meter relay, Bensalem and Cumberland Valley will represent PA in the Championship of America final. Bensalem ran the 4th fastest time of the day in 7:47.94 to snag the state lead while Cumberland Valley ran 7:54.82 to earn the 9th best performance of the day.

For the girls, the four PA teams ran the four fastest times in PA this season in the 4x800 meter relay Championship of America final! Great Valley finished 5th in the final with a state leading time of 9:10.09 just ahead of 6th place Pennsbury (9:10.39), 7th place Garnet Valley (9:12.72) and 11th place Strath Haven (9:17.73).
 
Cheltenham regained their state lead in the 4x100 meter relay, running 47.44 to finish 2nd in the small school championship race. Swenson finished 6th in a season best 47.85 for the Lions. In the large school race, Pennridge ran a PA#2 time of 47.55 to just miss beating out Winslow, NJ by .01 seconds.
 
 
 
 
Thursday
 
PA Recap Day 1: Virgo wins again. Streisel repeats. 4 teams advance to 4x8 COA. Runner-ups for McCartney in SP, Germantown Friends in DMR. PA challenges in HSG 3K and Mile.

Cyre Virgo of Fleetwood Area and Christine Streissel of Tamaqua represented PA with Penn Relays championship performances.
 
Virgo cleared 5-8.75 to win the title on misses over Chennel Palmer of St Andrew Girls Jamaica. Megan McCloskey of Germantown Academy finished tied for 3rd with a clearance of 5-7.25.
 
Streisel threw 149-6 to defeat fellow PA competitor Sarah Firestone of Mercersburg (148-10). Cait Mautz of Central Bucks West finished 5th with a throw of 133-9. Amanda Benninghoff of Council Rock South cleared 12-1.50 to finish 3rd in the pole vault. Courtney McCartney of Selinsgrove finished 2nd in the shot put with a state leading mark of 45-3, only trailing the winnger by 3/4 of an inch. Marshay Ryan of Chambersburg finished 5th in the triple jump with a mark of 40-7.50.
 

On the track, for the 2nd time in 3 years, PA qualified four teams in the girls 4x800 meter relay! Garnet Valley and Pennsbury qualified out of the large school sections, running 9:18.03 and 9:18.85 respectively. Great Valley qualified with the 3rd fastest time in the small school sections (9:22.37) while Strath Haven qualified for the Championship of America final for the 3rd year in a row, running 9:23.83.

In the 4x400 meter relay, Central Bucks West became the new state leaders with the 10th fastest time on the day out of 613 schools! Their time of 3:50.12 was the 4th fastest time amongst American teams. Swenson ran 3:51.47 to earn the 13th fastest time of the day. Cheltenham (3:55.80), Penncrest (3:57.05) and Strath Haven (3:57.05) rounded out the top five PA schools.

In the 4x100 meter relay, Pennridge regained the state lead with the 10th fastest time of the day in 47.68, the 4th best time amongst American schools. Swenson had the 15th best time (48.03) with Cheltenham right behind them in 16th (48.05). Neshaminy (48.77) and Central Bucks South (48.88) rounded out the state top 5.

In the evening distance events, Germantown Friends finished 2nd in the distance medley relay championship with a time of 11:55.99. West Chester Henderson finished 6th in 12:01.63 while Central Bucks East finished 12th in 12:27.98. In the 3000, Courtney Smith of Unionville finished 3rd in 9:38.40 just ahead of 4th place Tessa Barrett of Abington Heights (9:40.45). Regan Rome of Dallas also made the top ten with a time of 9:48.39. In the mile, Kennedy Weisner took the lead with two laps to go, but had to settle for 3rd with a time of 4:52.76. Marissa Sheva of Pennridge ran 4:57.88 to finish 6th and Sara Sargent of Pennsbury ran 5:01.52 to finish 10th. Tichina Rhodes of Swenson finished 9th in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:03.29.
