Jen Slagus of North Pocono won the national championship in the hammer throw! Her mark of 167-5 was 13 inches better than 2nd place!

 

 

 

Abby Jones of Franklin Area defeated Megan McCloskey of Germantown Academy in the high jump on misses to win the national championship! Both athletes cleared 5-8.50 with Jones clearing it on her 2nd attempt.

 

Unionville girls earned All American honors in the 4Xmile relay, improving on their 3rd place indoor finish and moving up to 2nd outdoors in 20:37.93 led by Anne Birkenmaier (5:11.41), Olivia Young (5:13.31), Emily Fisher (5:09.10) and Courtney Smith (5:04.13). Germantown Friends finished 7th in 20:56.40 and were led by Brigit Anderson (5:16.68), Caitlin Harrity (5:32.35), Eliza Lukens-Day (5:05.63) and Sarah Walker (5:01.75).

 

Sarah Firestone of Mercersburg Academy finished 2nd in the javelin with a mark of 150-5. They ended the day with a 5th place all-American finish in the distance medley relay with a time of 12:01.72 led by Walker (3:37.28), Taryn Milbourne (57.81), Brigit Andersson (2:21.78) and Lukens-Day (5:04.36). Anna Bailey of Bishop McDevitt finished 7th with a mark of 135-7. For the boys, West Chester Henderson were .4 seconds away from an All American spot in the 4xmile relay, but had to settle for 7th place in 17:25.31 led by the all junior team of Eric Stratman (4:21.65), Reiny Barchet (4:26.21), Tony Russell (4:19.80) and Kevin Moy (4:17.66). Jay Stone of Central York finished 6th in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 52.95. Evan Arnott of Schuylkill Valley finished 3rd in the discus with a mark of 195-10. Tim Moses of Palmyra finished 4th in the pole vault with a lifetime best clearance of 16-4. Top six earn all-American status.

In emerging elite, Rachel Flynn of Archbishop Carroll finished 6th in the 800 meter run with a lifetime best of 2:12.93. Elyse Skerpon of Sayre Area ran 1:04.30 to tie for 8th in the 400 meter hurdles. For the boys, Germantown Friends finished 9th in the distance medley relay with a time of 10:31.94 led by James Finney (3:13.54), Jordan May (48.96), Grayson Hepp (2:05.67) and Lyle Wistar (4:23.78).

Wellington Zaza of Garnet Valley is your new national champion in the 110 meter high hurdles!

 

 

The senior won the title by a comfortable margin with a T-PA#1 ALL TIME performance of 13.54! The time equals converted 13.3 hand times from Rodney Wilson of Bartram in 1979 and Charles James of Harry S Truman in 1983. It does break the fastest FAT mark of 13.61 from Deworski Odom of Overbrook in 1995!

 

 

 

Anthony Galantini of Valley View (199-7), Luke Smorey of Baldwin (195-3) and Ethan Shalaway of Boyertown (193-2) finished 5-6-7 in the javelin. Luke Lewis of Hickory threw 59-9.50 to finish 8th in the shot put. For the girls, Carter Green of North Schuylkill finished 6th in the discus with a mark of 134-8. Amanda Benninghoff of Council Rock South cleared 12-2.75 to finish 7th in the pole vault. On the track, Taylor Williams finished 6th in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.02.

In emerging elite, Ben Szuhaj of Penn Charter ran 9:27.10 to finish 10th in the 2 mile. Niager Mathis of Swenson ran 21.71 to finish 2nd in the 200 meter dash. Jeremy Orlik of Hickory threw 56-2 to finish 2nd in the shot put. For the girls, Natalie Shiffler of Hempfield (7) and Casey Harewood of Liberty both finished tied for 5th in the high jump with a mark of 5-2.50.

Courtney Smith of Unionville earned her first individual All American certificate with a 4th place finish in the 5000 meter run with a time of 16:45.37! Smith's performance was the best among juniors and was one of only two underclassmen to make the top six! Paige Stoner of Pottsville ran 17:45.77 to finish 19th overall, 4th in her heat. For the boys, Brendan Shearn of North Schuylkill finished 14th in the 5000 meter run with a time of 14:55.34. Brent Kennedy of Kiski Area ran 15:03.32 to finish 21st with Vinny Todaro of Big Spring finishing right behind him in 22nd.

In the emerging elite races, J'von Jennings of Downingtown East finished 7th in the emerging elite boys 110 meter hurdles with a time of 14.84. Niager Mathis of Swenson finished 4th in the boys 400 meter dash with a season best time of 48.59. Donovan Clay of Stroudsburg cleared 6-4.75 to tie for 5th in the high jump. Teammate David Clowney finished 4th in the triple jump with a mark of 46-3.25. Chris Spadaro of Council Rock South finished 5th in the same event in 46-1.25. Jeremy orlik of Hickory threw 155-11 to finish 5th in the discus. For the girls, Jerrica Bauer of George School finished 3rd in the freshmen 2 mile run with a time of 11:03.77. Courtney McCartney of Selinsgrove 121-9 to finish 7th in the discus. Brittany Plummer of Kennett cleared 11-5 to finish 7th in the pole vault.
