PA Salute To Seniors: Alec Brand - Central Bucks East HS

What was your most memorable race/competition?
My most memorable race was likely the Penn Relays this year, getting to anchor our 4x8 in front of the crowd at Franklin Field, there's truly nothing like that feeling, and I enjoyed every moment of that race despite any pain that I was fighting through.

Where did you face your biggest competition?
There's always competition when you're from District 1. I was lucky enough to compete against some of the top teams and individuals in the state on a week to week basis. That serves as a constant reminder to always stay on your 'A' game, and it keeps you humble.

Out of all of your high school accomplishments, which stands out the most?
There are many things that I cherish about high school, but overcoming some pretty overwhelming disappointments my senior year, but bouncing back and running some of my best races ever at the League, District, and State meets.

If you could do it all over again, what would you change about your athletic career in high school?
Not too much. I had a very positive experience thanks to my coaches and teammates and had a lot of fun showing up to practices and meets and working hard.

What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?
Balancing track and cross-country around real life events was probably one of the most difficult obstacles I encountered. It's difficult to strike a balance of priorities and making sure there is time to relax and enjoy yourself.

What will you miss the most?
I'll miss the people that I've met and competed against the past 3 years. The nature of competition always stays the same, but the people I've gotten the pleasure to compete against while in high school are truly one of a kind.

Do you have any advice for younger athletes?
I'll tell you a few words that my wise coach beat into my head this year. Running is a simple sport, you put one foot in front of the other and just keep running. I see many kids driving themselves nuts over racing, when really it's a simple sport, and if you put in the work, great things will happen.

How have your coaches influenced your performances and your life goals overall?
Performance influence is simple. Train hard and believe you can achieve great things. Life goals is a different story. They've taught me to weather the tough times and cherish the great times. Sometimes it's so easy to get caught up in goals and expectations, that it's difficult to stop and smell the roses once in a while. Celebrating success is a trait that I'll carry with me forever.

What are your college plans?
I'll be attending the one and only Shippensburg University and running Xc/Track under distance coach Steve Spence.

Shout-Outs?
I would like to give a shoutout to all of my teammates and coaches who made my high school experience what it is. Namely, some underclassmen Mike Donello, Frank Brophy, Oliver Boucher, and Jake Brophy who will make up a stellar 4x8 relay next year, WATCH OUT PA. I'd also like to say good luck to all of my fellow seniors who will be or have already graduated, it's been a pleasure competing against a great group of guys. Good luck to all of you in your future endeavors.
