PA Salute To Seniors: Sarah Kochinsky, Great Valley HS

Sarah Kochinsky - Great Valley HS

What was your most memorable race/competition?

I have had many memorable races, but I would say Indoor Nationals 2013 is the most.  We had a rough race on Friday night in the DMR, but we were also running the 4x800 the next day.  We were able to come back and place 5th, with the PA #3 all time.  We all ran our PR’s or season's best that race, overall it was an unforgettable race.

Where did you face your biggest competition?
It was against my own teammates every day.  We all had the same goals as a team and it motivated us every day.  We would work together and push each other every practice or race.

Out of all of your high school accomplishments, which stands out the most?
Winning the Indoor State Championship in the 4x800, and getting 2nd at States outdoors this year.

If you could do it all over again, what would you change about your athletic career in high school?
There are not many things I would want to change, but I do wish I took running more seriously when I was in 9th and 10th grade.  I didn’t start running cross country until 11th grade, and if I could go back, I would have started it earlier.

What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?
My biggest obstacle was my self confidence. I would doubt my abilities and not believe in myself at times. I never thought I would be able to compete at such a high level.  I have to thank my teammates and coaches for helping me overcome this and helping me believe in myself.

What will you miss the most?
My amazing teammates. They have become my best friends over the years, and it will be sad leaving them next year.  We have gone through so much together, good and bad times. I know they will accomplish great things in the future and I wish them the best of luck.

Do you have any advice for younger athletes?
Love the sport and always have fun.  Most of my favorite memories from high school are from being a part of the cross country and track teams. When things get difficult, just remember why you do the sport, because you love it.

How have your coaches influenced your performances and your life goals overall?
My coaches motivate me everyday to be the best I can. They push me at practice so I can reach my full potential. I can’t thank them enough for the success I have had in cross country and track.

What are your college plans?
I will be running XC and Track at the University of Pittsburgh.

Shout-Outs?
I would like to thank my parents for their endless support in everything I do.  I am so thankful for my teammates and the strong friendships I have formed with them. Good luck to GV XC and Track and Field in the years to come!
