Class A Boys: Saegertown wins rubber match, Molino wins state title in 2nd fastest time of the day

The boys A race was a rematch between the district 12 champions and PIAA Foundation winners Masterman and district 10 winners Saegertown. Masterman won in September by under 20 points and have been flying through their competition since that meet. Both schools were looking for their first ever championship and the rubber match was not as close as their initial encounter.

Saegertown had a 5-7-9 team point performance from Morgan Schenberg, Brendon Barclay and Brad Amy to set themselves apart from Masterman, who only had Julian DeGroot-Lutzner to split up that trio. Saegertown wound up victorious over Masterman 60-93 to win their first every championship. Masterman finished with their best finish at a state championship. Their previous best was a 4th place finish in 2010 in AA.

Individually, Griffin Molino of South Williamsport has had a short cross country career, competing in only eight meets in his two year career prior to this year's state finals. In his 9th race, he introduced himself to PA as one of the runners to watch in the future, as the junior cruised to his first state championship with a time of 15:54, the 2nd fastest time of the day. Jeremy Parsons of Maplewood battled hard with the junior, but had to settle for 2nd place with a time of 16:25. Sebastain Curtin of Mercyhurst Prep rounded out his stellar season with a 3rd place performance and 1 team point for his team with a time of 16:33.
