1/27 INDOOR WEEK #9 SUMMARY:

At the TSTCA INDOOR MEET #3 @ Slippery Rock, Diana Filtz, Penn Trafford, won the 3000 and doubled back to take the 800. Scott Van Kooten, Pittsburgh Central Catholic, went sub-9 to win the boys 3000. Shaler swept the 4x800's. Alexandra Acker, McDowell took the pole vault at 10-06. Baldwin's girls won the DMR and Seneca Valley, the boys. The New Balance Games 4x800 champs from Bradford, won the 4x400 to set up a big two Saturday schedule. They raced at Akron the next day in the 4x800 in 2nd and because of their NB performance, earned an invitation to the elite 4x800 Feb 3 at the New Balance Collegiate Games in NY. ALBRIGHT COLLEGE HS INVITE #3, Wilson's Tory Toso exceled at clearing barriers; Reading's Jazmin Hunt did well in the short sprints and HJ, where she was joined by Central Dauphin's Katie Butler in a four-way tie for PA#1; and Schuylkill Valley's Devan Coon dominated the longer sprints. At the DELCO BOYS INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS at Glen Mills, Strath Haven's Rob Speare had a busy night, winning the 3000 and anchoring the DMR to a win. Glen Mills sophomore Semaj Spencer continued to excel in the long and triple jumps going over 22' and 44'. Teammate Bernard Goodwyn won the 200 by holding off Cardinal O'Hara's Steve Werner by a tenth-of-a-second. Werner did win the 55 and the 55 Hurdles, and a 2nd in the 200. At the NYRR THURSDAY NIGHT AT THE RACES in New York, Germantown Friends runners made the trek worth the effort as juniors Max Kaulbach and Jake McKenzie ran strong 1500's. Isaac Oritz, also a junior, made a strong showing in the 3000. And senior Jasper Sneff-Nanni went 2-low for 800 meters. At the BISON OPEN at Bucknell University, Lara Crofford took over the top spot in the state in the 3000. She also posted a strong mile. Schuylkill Valley's Devan Coon moved into PA#2 in two events.

At the PENN STATE NATIONAL INVITATIONAL there were lots of great PA high school grad performances. Most notable was the near-miss at the sub 4 mile for the second consecutive year by Shaler grad and Pitt junior Sam Bair III Allentown Central Catholic grad Frances Koons, a Villanova junior, won the mile in an NCAA auto qualifier time. Bair's time was provisional. And Central grad Mike Wray, also a Pitt junior, won the 60 hurdles. At the TFCAGP D2 INDOOR MEET #8 at Widener, the events that start inside and go outside were quick as Charles Gladman, Cardinal Dougherty, won the 55 and Wissahickon's John Grosko took the 55 hurdles. Wissahickon won the 4x800 in a meet record time to go with their DMR win. At the TFCAGP D1 INDOOR MEET #8 @ Glen Mills Schools, Boyertown moved to PA#6 in the Distance Medley Relay, with Coatesville improving their PA#8 by a little less than a second. At the UNIVERSITY OF AKRON HS INVITE #1, Bradford followed up their Friday night 4x400 win at Slippery Rock with a 2nd place in the 4x800. Baldwin was 3rd. Sean Gil of North Allegheny took over PA#2 in the pole vault. In the Semi-Finals of the COLGATE WOMEN'S GAMES at Pratt Institute in NY, Syeeda Gee of Engineering & Science, won the semi-finals of the 1500. At the FRANKLIN & MARSHALL HS INVITATIONAL #2, Central Cambria's Carly Seymour ran a solid PA#2 in the 3000 by less than five seconds behind Big Spring's Lara Crofford, who had run her PA#1 time at Bucknell University, also last Saturday. Coatesville's Kaleena Gray improved her PA#2 standing in the shot put. State College's Christy Johnson joined two other girls in a 3-way tie for PA#2 in the high jump. Alysha Cook of Harrisburg moved into PA#4 in the 55 dash. And Conestoga Valley junior Vince McNally became the 6th guy under nine minutes in the 3000. On Sunday at the SPORTSPLEX TRACK SHOWCASE MEET in Landover, MD, West Catholic athletes performed well. Patience Osuagwu went 8.9 and Jermain Lowery 7.8 in the 55 hurdles. Simone Carter ran 25.3 for 200 and 1:00.1 for 400; and Jerome Lowery went 51.6 in the 400. Neumann Goretti's Kyle Tucker ran 22.9 in the 200.

1/24 Albright College HS Invite #3

RESULTS POSTED

Wilson's Tory Toso excels at clearing barriers. In the pole vault, she was over at 11-00, and in the 55 hurdles, she took 2nd to Reading's Jazmin Hunt by 4/10th in 8.8 seconds. In addition to Hunt's win, she was a runner-up in the 55 dash in 7.6, to Unionville's Amanda Auger, who ran a 7.4. Central Dauphin's Katie Butler cleared 5-05 in the high jump, which moves her into a 3-way tie for PA#1. Devan Coon of Schuylkill Valley won the 200 in 26.5 and the 400 in 1:01.9.


1/25 DELCO Boys Indoor Championships @ Glen Mills Schools

Strath Haven's Rob Speare had a busy night, winning the 3000 in 9:09.8 and anchoring the DMR to a win in 10:54.4. Glen Mills sophomore Semaj Spencer is on everyone's radar this season, and he continued to excel in the long and triple jumps, going 22-02.50 and 44-09.50. Teammate Bernard Goodwyn won the 200 in 22.7, holding off Cardinal O'Hara's Steve Werner by a tenth-of-a-second. Werner did win the 55 in 6.4 second and the 55 Hurdles in a 7.7, and took 2nd in the 200 to Glen Mills' Bernard Goodwyn, who was timed aat 22.7, to Werner's 22.8.


1/25 NYRR Thursday Night at the Races @ NY Armory

RESULTS LINKED

Germantown Friends runners made the trek to the Armory in NY worth the effort. Juniors Max Kaulbach and Jake McKenzie ran 4:04.5 and 4:08.2, respectively, in the 1500. Isaac Oritz, also a junior, ran 9:03.4 in the 3000. And senior Jasper Sneff-Nanni went 2:01.4 for 800 meters.


1/26-27 Bison Open @ Bucknell University

RESULTS POSTED

Lara Crofford did the distance double, taking 3rd in the mile in 5:15.31, and running 10:10.99, which is the top time in PA this season. Schuylkill Valley's Devan Coon moved into PA#2 in two events, running a 25.57 200 and a 58.94 400. She also went 7.93 in the 60 meter dash. Daniel Boone junior Aubrie McAlpine ran 7.92.


1/26-27 Penn State National Invitational @ Penn State University

Lots of great PA high school grad performances. Most notable is the near-miss at the sub 4 mile for the second consecutive year by Shaler grad and Pitt junior Sam Bair III who even with a lean ran 4:00.87. Bair was 2nd to matt Lincoln, who ran 3:59.38. Allentown Central Catholic grad Frances Koons, a Villanova junior, won the mile in 4:38.98, an NCAA auto qualifier. Bair's time was provisional. And Central grad Mike Wray, also a Pitt junior, won the 60 hurdles in 7.75. He had run 7.73 in the prelims and 7.72 in the semis. All three times are NCAA provisional.


1/26 TFCAGP D2 Indoor Meet #8 @ Widener University

RESULTS POSTED

Running inside, outside at the Widener track, Charles Gladman, Cardinal Dougherty, went 6.5 in the 55 and Wissahickon's John Grosko went 7,9 in the 55 hurdles. Wissahickon won the 4x800 in a meet record 11:34.2 and the DMR in 11:34.2.



Bradford's Shroy MuKerjee, Rich Bartlebaugh, Jared Feura,
and Colton Langianese, won the 4x400 in 3:36.8
to set up two big 4x800 over the following two Saturdays.

Diana Filtz, Penn Trafford, won the 3000 in 10:45.4 and doubled back in the 800 in 2:24.4. Scott Van Kooten, Pittsburgh Central Catholic, went 8:57.5 to win the boys 3000. Elwood City's Bethany Walker PRed in the 3000 in 11:04.6 and doubled back to win the mile in 5:32.5. Shaler swept the 4x800's in 10:34.7 (Allison Hoy, Caitlin Ruane, Jessica Zozos, Caitlin Pelat) and 8:14.7 (Trale Merz, Bob Cizck, Andy McKee, Adam Bernardo). Alexandra Acker, McDowell took the pole vault at 10-06. Baldwin's girls won the DMR and Seneca Valley (Matt Marchese, Evan McGoogan, Chris Cipro, Cam Stauffer), the boys, where they went 11:10.7. The New Balance Games 4x800 champs from Bradford won the 4x400 in 3:36.8 (Shroy MuKerjee 55.7, Rich Bartlebaugh 53.4, Jared Feura 54.8, Colton Langianese 53.2) to set up a big two Saturday schedule. They raced at Akron Saturday in the 4x800 where they took 2nd, and because of their New Balance performance in NY, earned an invitation to the elite 4x800 Saturday Feb 3rd at the New Balance Collegiate Games in NY. Toney Clemons of Valley took over PA#2 in the 55 hurdles in 7.4.

1/27 Colgate Women's Games - Semi-Finals @ Pratt Institute

RESULTS POSTED

Syeeda Gee of Engineering & Science, won the semi-finals of the 1500 in 4:49.05. Alexandra Brasington of Upper Dublin was 3rd. Seanna Hipp of Strawberry Mansion was 4th in the 800 in 2:24.44, while E&S's Acoya Goines took 6th in the 400 in 1:01.26.


1/27 Franklin & Marshall HS Invitational #2 @ F&M College

RESULTS POSTSED

Cruising at pre-planned 41-second per lap pace, Central Cambria's Carly Seymour ran a 10:15.22 3000, which is a solid PA#2 by less than five seconds behind Big Spring's Lara Crofford. Crofford ran her time at Bucknell University, also last Saturday. Coatesville's Kaleena Gray improved her PA#2 standing in the shot put with a throw of 44-01.75. Joining two other girls in a 3-way tie for PA#2 in the high jump was State College's Christy Johnson, clearing 5-04. Alysha Cook of Harrisburg moved into PA#4 with a 7.40 in the 55 dash. And Conestoga Valley junior Vince McNally became the 6th guy under nine minutes in the 3000, running to a 8:56.30.


1/27 TFCAGP D1 Indoor Meet #8 @ Glen Mills Schools

RESULTS POSTED

Boyertown moved to PA#6 in the Distance Medley Relay with a 10:51.4, with Coatesville improving their PA#8 by a little less than a second, to 10:54.2. Central's John Kennedy won the 400 in 51.3.


1/27 University of Akron HS Invite #1 @ Akron, OH

RESULTS POSTED

After posting a 3:36.8 4x400 Friday night at the TSTCA meet at Slippery Rock, Bradford's boys shipped off to Akron, where on Saturday they ran 8:06.23 for 2nd. Baldwin went 8:15.14 for 3rd. Sean Gil of North Allegheny cleared 15' in the pole vault for the win and #2 in PA. Teammate Kristen Zeleznik took the girls' pole vault with a 10-06 effort. The Norwin girls were 2nd in the 4x800 in 10:20.77. West Mifflin's boys took 3rd in the 4x200 in 1:33.88, with Baldwin two spots back at 1:34.29.


1/28 Sportsplex Track Showcase All-Comers Meet @ Landover, MD

ONLY PA RESULTS POSTED

West Catholic athletes performed well. Patience Osuagwu went 8.9 and Jermain Lowery 7.8 in the 55 hurdles. Simone Carter ran 25.3 for 200 and 1:00.1 for 400; and Jerome Lowery went 51.6 in the 400. Neumann Goretti's Kyle Tucker ran 22.9 in the 200.
