3/24 OUTDOOR WEEK #1 SUMMARY:

In two distance races on Saturday at the FRED HARDY INVITATIONAL at the University of Richmond, Neely Spence (Homeschooled) ran a 6-second PR in the 1500M (4:37.71) and a 13-second PR in the 3000M (10:02.89) in the college and open meet. The Strath Haven boys are out of the blocks fast at the CHICHESTER RELAYS at Chichester HS. Even running in the small school division of the large school-small school meet, they posted top times of the day in three of the four relays they won, and tied for top honors in the fourth. Their wins came in the DMR at 10:56.6, the 4x800 in 8:08.0, the 4x100 in 44.3, and the 4x20 in 1:32.6, the same time awarded to Penncrest in the other race. The Chester girls broke a long-standing meet record in the 1600 Sprint Medley Relay, going 3:53.1 to eclipse the 3:58.9 mark set by Penn Wood in 1997. Penncrest's Karen Shump opened with an 8-foot-plus PR in the discus, flinging it 141-09. She also eased the shot out 44-04.50. In the first year of West Chester University's GOLDEN RAM INVITATIONAL, the stars were popping. Less than a week after celebrating her 17th birthday, junior sensation Ryann Krais shook off the indoor turns and stretched a bit to add the longer distances in the hurdles. The results were much the same, as she won the 100 in 14.49 and the 300 barrier-race in 44.03. She also ran the 400 leg of the winning 4:21.67 sprint medley relay, and the anchor leg of the winning 4:03.61 4x400. The Methacton girls won the team title, with Norristown 2nd, as Krais was named the MVP of the meet for the girls. Norristown's Shakira Harris held off Gwynedd Mercy's Taylor Bumpas 58.69 to 58.95 in the 400. Bumpas did take the 800 in 2:18.54. Steph Fulmer of St. Pius X ran a 5:09.63 to win the 1600. Glen Mills won the boys' team title behind the MVP efforts of Jhavonte Carr. Carr won the 100 in 11.41 and was 2nd to Ridley's Kevin Wilbank by just .01, going 22.94 in the 200. Glen Mills won the 4x400 in 3:27.60. Some quick hurdle wins by Jarret Eaton of Abington in the 110 variety, going 14.62; Frank Wainwright of Simon Gratz, with his 40.33 in the 300, and a 58.16 by Bryant Mills of Church Farm School in the 400 hurdles. The Methacton boys took 2nd as a team. At Phoenixville High School's PHOENIX RELAYS, the Coatesville boys set two meet records. They broke - no, make that crushed - their 2005 1:33.34 4x200 relay mark by running 1:30.43. They weren't too kind to Downingtown West's 2005 distance medley relay record of 10:46.77 either, running to a 10:35.29. The Coatesville guys also went 3:28.74 to win the 4x400. Wissahickon broke Henderson's 3:43.79 sprint medley relay record by a ton, going 3:38.83. The Spring Ford girls really lowered the standard in the girls SMR, running 4:20.34, almost 12 seconds better than the 2005 record set by Avon Grove. At the "POP" EMREY WARM-UP RELAYS @ Liberty HS, the Pocono Mountain West girls won the 4x100 in 51.06 and the 800m sprint medley relay in 1:53.9. The Pennridge girls controlled the distance events, winning the 4x800 in 9:56 and the DMR in 12:46.3. They also captured the shuttle hurdles in 1:09.7. The host Liberty boys went 10:58.8 to take the DMR. In the field events, Anita James of Pocono Mountain West leapt 17-09 to capture the long jump. Ashley Pinter of Liberty went 36-0 to take the shot put.
